Brekkestranda wasn’t the fanciest place I stayed in Norway, but it certainly had the most wonderful sunset view. We were there in June, and the sunset lasted for hours. Brilliantly located on the fjord, we were able to see it for miles. There’s a great outdoor space for enjoying nature’s beauty.
I stayed here to break up the drive from Alesund to Bergen into two days. The service was excellent (Konstantine rocks!), and we devoured a late dinner, thrilled to discover their kitchen was still open after a long day of driving. After our wonderful dinner, we were disappointed that breakfast was so basic. The dining room was lovely, with a wall of windows providing a great outlook onto the fjord.
The room itself has a rustic feel, perhaps a little too rustic for my tastes. The wall unit heaters could use updating, and the bathroom is in desperate need of a complete renovation. The rock floor was rough and didn’t really dry after our showers. I was also wary of the bathroom heater, which definitely warmed the room, but seemed too exposed.
One note about booking a night here… we had to track down an alternate e-mail address from their Facebook page after queries to the one listed on their website went unanswered.
Overall, this place has a great location. It just requires some maintenance and upkeep to reach its potential.
