We were two couples visiting Greenwich - on a very hot weekend - and decided to stay at the B&B for the night. We arrived around 1pm (before the 3pm check-in time). Even thought we saw at least one of the rooms was ready, they would not let us use it. We also asked if we could go to the swimming pool while we waited, but they told us we had to pay a fee (25$ / hour per room) for that. So we walked around town and came back later.

The next day, we checked-out on time and went to the swimming pool. We asked if we could stay there for just one more hour (until 1pm), once again they wanted to charge us the fee. There was no one else at the hotel / pool! One of us couples refused to pay and left frustrated. The other stayed and in the middle of a swim, the owner asked them "what they were doing there", explaining that "guests should leave after the checkout", adding "there are public beaches they could go to"!

The place is beautiful and we really enjoyed our breakfast. But we agree with many reviews here (by the way, the aggressive responses from the owners are so inappropriate). It is just weird that the management of a small B&B won’t be flexible with small details - which wouldn’t cost them anything - to please their guests. It is not a low-priced B&B so it was disappointing to be treated that way, especially when they claim to be hospitable and aim to be a “home away from home”. Now they’ve gained 25$ (+tax!), but sadly lost us as customers and recommenders.

On our first day, the staff / owners (?) and their whole family (around 10 people) came to use the swimming pool while we were there, we didn’t complain, WE were flexible and friendly, so it was shocking (and once again: weird!) to be practically kicked out the next day.

Cristina, it's disappointing to me that, although you enjoyed the breakfast and the view, your experience at our pool soured your stay so much. As I'm sure you're aware, facilities in a bed and breakfast like ours are reserved exclusively for our guests — that includes the pool as much as it does the rooms. For a number of reasons, from insurance policies to cleaning procedures, this is standard practice at most hotels and inns across the country. The rules are there for the safety of all our guests and the efficiency of our team, and have not been set out arbitrarily, I assure you.

As we already explained to your boyfriend in the review below this one, we allowed you and your guests to stay for an extra hour in your rooms and at the pool after check-out as a courtesy, then charged when you were no longer a guest. We viewed this as a compromise, as our town and local regulations would prefer that we not allow non-guests to use the pool.

I'm sorry you find our responses to reviews "aggressive", but defending our reputation and our staff is important to us as a business. It's odd that these guests returned from a previous stay (and even chose the same room) if they found the staff and the vibe here so "weird".

Once again, I'm sorry to hear that your stay wasn't a more enjoyable one because of our policies. If you care to call us in person, I would be happy to explain the situation more fully over the phone.

The hotel is ok, but the staff was terrible. We got to the hotel at noon and although the rooms were ready they made us wait until 2pm. Our first feeling was that we were not welcomed.

We booked for a one night stay, Saturday night. When we asked them to stay in the pool until 1pm Sunday, they told us that when guests check out they leave and that there were public beaches we could go to (???). On Saturday we had to share the pool with the staff and their families, how could they not let us stay for one more hour at the pool?

We felt not welcomed and uncomfortable.

We are not coming back!, service was not polite and cold, not what you would expect at a B&B.

It's disappointing to hear that your second stay with us was anything less than spectacular. Our team makes every effort to ensure that our guests feel entirely welcome during their stay, so I'm sorry to hear that we didn't hit the mark with you.

That said, I would just like to note for posterity that these guests had already checked out when they asked to use the pool, which is understandably against our policy, in the same way that if someone asked to continue using the room, we would have declined.

We allowed them to check-in earlier (check-in time is normally 3 pm) and check-out later (check-out time is 11 am). We make every effort to accommodate arrivals before our official check-in time. If the room is still being prepared by our staff, we are happy to hold guest's bags for free for them while they enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant or allow them to use our pool for an additional fee.

It's lucky for these guests that all our other guests were off hiking, at the beach, enjoying great meals at local restaurants, shopping on Greenwich Avenue, and exploring our town, as it allowed them to enjoy exclusive use of the pool until 8 pm on Saturday evening, as well as private use until noon the next day. The "staff" joining them in the pool were the owners who live on the premises and a few members of their family for an hour in the late evening. These guests did not leave our property until 1 pm on Sunday (i.e.: we allowed them two additional hours at the pool).

While we make every effort to explain our policies as clearly as possible, B&Bs are not full-service hotels--the staff often includes the owners. In our establishment, the owners assist in all levels of our operation--cleaning, breakfast, interacting with guests, even "life guarding". Other guests refer to us as a home away from home. While we believe we offered these guests as much warmth and courtesy as we do any of our other guests, we are saddened to be reminded that everyone has different perceptions.

It's a shame to hear you did not enjoy your second stay nearly as much as your first stay with us. My sincerest apologies for any confusion regarding our policies, and enjoy your future stays elsewhere.

Very nice spot w/ classic Victorian architecture close to the heart of Greenwich. Staff is friendly, the breakfast warm and cozy. Rooms are of modest size, wood floors are noisy, and narrow stairways make it less than ideal for the very young and very old, but it's great for those in the middle. Just make sure your GPS is working if you're coming in from the airport (or anywhere else) and don't know your way around. Written directions are difficult to follow, especially at night.

Room Tip: Top floors require some stairway navigation but it's quieter up there.

"Warm and cozy" — that's exactly how we want our guests to feel. It's terrific to hear our team was so on point when you visited. We appreciate the great recommendation. Next time you're visiting the area, we'd love to have you back! And now that you've stayed with us once already, you can hopefully leave the GPS at home...

We held a family reunion at the Stanton House Inn and could NOT have been happier with this lovely, homey-yet-elegant Inn.

The Pearson family goes out of its way to make you part of their family in rooms that are elegant, roomy, SUPER clean and restful.

Breakfasts were plentiful with a wide variety of hot, continental and healthy choices.

We were here when the weather was still chilly but there are many places outdoors to read or chat and when it warms up some, a really nice swimming pool would be refreshing after a walk to town.

Situated close to downtown Greenwich, you can walk everywhere you need to go and the restaurants and shops nearby ensure that you will NEVER be bored here!

The Stanton House Inn is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

The Stanton House is a nice place to stay at and the staff is friendly. My only complaint and the reason for my rating is that the showerheads are gross and seem as they have never been cleaned. The bathrooms and the rooms are clean, but the showerheads need to be cleaned regularly.
