“Great food and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2013

We stopped at the Guilford Moorings last Sunday. We had our first date here 28 years ago and got engaged there a year later. We have tried over the years to go back to celebrate these events but were turned off because the place had lost it's appeal.
We decided to try again and were pleasantly surprised. The building had been totally renovated and is very attractive. There is also a very nice outdoor deck overlooking Guilford harbor. Best of all was the food and service. Our chop salad was fabulous with a combination of spinach, mushrooms, carrots, cucumbers, onions, etc, and our lobster rolls were absolutely delicious.
Service was great from the hostess, to the bartender to our very attentive and personable waiter Mike. We will definitely return.

“Ok for a drink but go across the street to eat”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2013

The sad thing about this restaurant is that it has a great location and with the proper management and a good cook it could be awesome. Perhaps a call to Restaurant Impossible could help them. We were there on a Wednesday night and although the small parking lot was full the restaurant was not many empty tables on the inside and most were just leaving on the small outside area. The outside area can really be a big draw but it is closed in by a grey fence and the whole time sitting out there all you smelled was garbage very unappetizing. Clearly they are also understaffed but i will say that the waitress that we had although very overworked she was pleasant you actually felt sorry for her but others clearly did not based on the comments made to her. We were able to order a drink and that took a little while before we got it. They did have some specials but what was odd that instead of highlighting the specials they seemed to highlight what there were out of instead. We ordered apps first mussels in white wine garlic sauce that were okay and the clam chowder and lobster bisque the chowder was also ok but not super hot, the bisque rather cool and no flavor. Once we finished our apts it was about 45 min or so before we received our dinner well one of us did the meals all came out at different times and the 1st person was done when the last person got there food. For dinner we all opted for sandwiches all with lobster - the cold sandwich was pretty good but the hot lobster roll was clearly lacking and the presentation was virtually non-existent on all. One of the specials athough we are told they offer it every day was the lobster BLT it was clearly not special served on a soggy croissant roll and still not clear if hot or cold lobster salad. They all came with sides again nothing to rave about but one thing that they did do was serve a family size salad that was one of the better things but again just okay. The service was very poor but the server you felt bad for. Not a place to go if you are in a hurray and again a real shame because it is a gem of a spot and it could be a great success with the right management and cook.

“new owners, huge improvement”

The overall vibe of this place def has improved from years past. Great seafood and a nice patio overlooking the Guilford Marina. (not too many outdoor places to eat in Guilford) It is however a little pricey

“MOORING IS the worst restaurant. needs better chef, better manager”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2013

why go here, when the stonehouse is right across the way you pay more, but the food is perfection, and the service impeccable..
manager does not aim to please customers. if they dare to complain, he turns around and talks about them. my husband and I ate at the bar, and the food was greasy and horrible. my husband complained that the scallops were cold, and he just said, not that's the way they are. then he turned his back, and we overheard him talking about us, and customers that arealways looking for something free. that's not what we were after. just plain, warm food. he sat at the end, making fun of people, and his gal bartender...very unprofessional. the last mgr they had, Bob, was highly unprofessional, and this one even beats him. I would think the owners would hire someone who had training in mgmt., and did not sit at the bar, where customer could over hear him talking about them, and also about the employees in there. speaking of cold, the place does not have air, and you are sqeltering, and the poor waiters and waitresses were walking by to their tables, with sweat and perspiration dripping on them. who wants to dine out in that environment.

“Will Not Return...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2013

Our family visited the Guilford Mooring this weekend, but we will not be returning. I heard that the restaurant was renovated and under new management since Hurricane Sandy, so we gave it a shot. All I can say is that the impression from our party of 12 was unanimous and we will not be returning. The parking at this restaurant is a disaster, so be prepared to walk from the public parking lot at the boat launch. If the restaurant has air conditioning it was not working the day we went which made for a very unpleasant dining experience. There were not many local seafood options on the menu which surprised me. Who serves catfish, tilapia and mahi-mahi at a New England seafood restaurant? Lots of fried options for everything on the menu, so I opted for the broiled haddock. The portion size (a single fillet) was pathetically small and my son received a larger portion of haddock with his fish & chips. Not a good experience and we will not be returning.
