“Definitely Worth The Trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

I've been wanting to come for a long time but was concerned about what I'd find at the end of the trip-now I regret not coming sooner! Yes it's rustic but not at all dicey as I'd imagined- The tables & tents are a cheerful red, & every table sports a big green bottle full of wildflowers!! The stumps were cute but we opted for the chairs (note to restaurant, however-the cracked ones need replacing before you lose a patron!). Table service ensured you don't have to queue up in a line for your BBQ . The grilled corn on the cob is to die for-huge, roasty & dripping with butter; we had the ribeye , bluefish, clams special & veggie kabob. Everything had a tasty sauce or seasoning & tasted super fresh. We didn't byob, sides, or table cloths- it's not at all necessary but could be fun the next time around. Yes, there will def be a next time!

“Not Worth it”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014

We ate their for lunch, we were there soon after it opened. The food was ok but we left hungry after spending $50 for 2 adults and 1 child, for the value of what you get it's just not worth it. We had to get pizza after lunch, I really don't understand the rave reviews. My family has been in the restaurant business for 40 years and think I have a good grasp of good food and service and this just didn't meet that.

“Finally made it here and it was worth it!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014

I have heard about The Place for a number of years from family members and I finally got to try it out. Get there early as they don't take reservations. We had a large group of about 15 people and it was really fun. Al fresco dining at its best. Their motto is "put your rump on a stump" and literally you do! Bring your own drinks and side dishes and they provide the main dishes, fish, steak, chicken, lobster, etc. They also have delicious corn on the cob. They also have traditional New England shellfish dishes, clams, oysters, etc. I and the steak with corn and also samples the bluefish all was quite tasty. The Place is a fun dining experience worth having.

“Loved It, Loved It, Loved It”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2014

What a lot of fun. Your seat is a stump, the menu is a huge sign nailed to poles, and its BYOB. Our group of 8 had the chicken, steak, catfish, blue fish, corn on the cob, vegetable kabob, and of course dessert. We all enjoyed our meals and the service was great. Everything is cooked on an out side grill. We loved watching them work. Very low keyed but a great evening.

“Small Town Big Appetite”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

The Place is a concept restaurant that requires one or two lil tips to know before you go. First off, there are no reservations so you get the luck of the draw. The seating is outdoors on a layer of pebbles and crushed clam shells so be careful if you have exposed footwear. The seats are low cut tree stumps so you may want to bring your own cushion if you aren't comfortable with having your bottom on a tree that won't be growing anymore! There are a few normal plastic chairs available but you may have to wrestle for them. The seating is self serve just find anywhere that's empty and have a seat. The tables come in various sizes but are low to the ground. You may want to bring your own disposable one time use table cloth if you are into hygiene or want to put your elbows down on a table that hasn't been aged with cooked meat and butter drops. So now that you're sat down we can talk about the rest. Since I like to eat, I've tasted almost everything on the menu thanks to being in a large family and everyone ordering something different. The waiting staff are friendly and fun, however if you come on a nice sunny day or a weekend, prepare to (just like most restaurants) wait a little bit to flag someone down. It is a problem of capacity for any restaurant but it is worth the wait so don't be discouraged. The menu is next to the BBQ pit (which by the way is real with wood so the flavor is excellent) on a large wooden stilt with prices and choices. I do recommend that you have AT LEAST ONE CORN on the cob, it is insanely good because it is cooked with it's green stalk and then opened up and drenched in butter sauce :)
The mussels and shrimp are nothing special except that they have a slightly different taste due to the heat being a bbq rather than direct contact in conventional cooking. I also do recommend to have some veggie bobs, these are juicy and al dante cooked veggies in tin foil that come to a nice succulent form on the bbq. The main attraction here is the lobster. The lobsters are cooked on the grill and served almost ready to eat, just have to yank out the meat from the tail section, the claws come already cracked for you, just some slight engineering needed to reach the happy ending. The taste is sweeter than a regular boiled up creature so I do recommend it. The bbq chicken and rib eye steak are also good, but I wouldn't stop here just for those as many restaurants specialize in those industries already. The cheese cake is quite good, if you have room.
All in all i think this is a nice restaurant to eat at. Now pay attention to this part: CASH ONLY. So don't show up thinking it's America credit cards are accepted, they aren't so be prepared. The cost in the end is quite modest with the 29.99 1.3/4 lobster being the most expensive on the menu it's a good bargain. I do recommend you get the largest lobster because the price is not linear. The smaller lobsters around 1.25 lbs have a lot less meat ratio than the 1.75 or 2 lbs ones because the dead weight of the shell and claws is almost always at least 1 lbs if not more.
