Arriving for lunch, we found a menu board full of lunch foods that ran the gamut from prosaic to creative. You can order a standard sandwich featuring a choice of cheeses or lunchmeats like turkey on a choice of bread, or you can go with one of their composed sandwiches or salads. I had the curried chicken salad with chutney sandwich; it was totally delicious. There are also excellent sides dishes, such as orzo salad, slaw, or potato salad. They also serve the most beautiful cookies and desserts, fit for a tea party. The apricot bar was fabulous. The notable thing about Billings Forge is that so many items have a wonderful little twist that take them above the ordinary. The chicken salad sandwich came on a cranberry walnut bread that added extra wonderful (and harmonious) flavors. The potato salad had a little horseradish in it that made it really crave-able. The apricot bar had an intriguing little bit of rosemary. Though the restaurant is small, there are a couple of communal tables that will fit you in if the regular tables are full. Parking isn't always available in the lot in front of the café, but there is adequate street parking. Also, there is a lot of take-out business, so just wait a couple minutes and someone will leave. Service was great! I highly recommend.
