“Nice when not crowded”
Reviewed 23 July 2012

Long beach and nice campgrounds, but water doesn't seem very clean. Avoid this area on holidays or nice weather weekends when it's too crowded and the inner city people leave garbage all over the beach and parking lots.

“Beautiful beach, natural surroundings”
Reviewed 15 July 2012

Thanks to the other trip advisor reviewers for their great recommendations about this beach. I am one who enjoys a day at the beach . . . under my umbrella with a good book. I hadn't been to this beach in over 20 years. We went on a weekday and it was not overly crowded and the beach was clean. It cost $9/carload to get in. We parked near the nature preserve. What a beautiful spot with wild flowers, tall grasses and amazing views. We did not go inside, but I think the kids would enjoy it. We walked over to Meig's Point. There were bathrooms/changing rooms, a lifeguard, a concession stand. We were able to get a spot far enough from the crowd for some needed peace and quiet and yet be near to the amenities. What an open, beautiful area and there are little hiking trails on the point which overlook the ocean and the marshes. The food at the concession stand was surprisingly good and affordable. We got a cheeseburger ($4.50) and hot dog ($3.75). If you're looking for waves, well you really won't find them here. We got there at 11:00 am and it was low tide, so we could walk out quite a ways with water at our waist - not great for swimming, but you could at least cool off. Water is well, clean I guess, let's just say it's not Florida! No alcoholic beverage, pets or glass allowed on the beach. I've lived in CT my whole life and forget how beautiful the state really is. This was a pleasant reminder.

“Lots of sand to choose from”
Reviewed 14 July 2012

This park has undergone a wonderful face-lift! Great campground, bike trails, walking paths, and four separate beach areas. The beach has been repaired since Hurricane Irene and the sand is deep, clean and smooth (unusual for New England!) Meig's Point, at the end of the beach road, has a lovely little nature center with free admission. Lots of protected salt marsh to drive by, with cormorant nesting poles to observe. Great pavilions with tables, showers, and changing rooms on all four beaches. Food served on all but Meig's Point.

This state park has beach as far as the eye can see. Bathrooms easily accessible and it is only 25 minutes from Middletown. Nice camping sites too!
