We have stayed here many times and have never been disappointed. Easy walk to many shops restaurants and even the movie theater! Recommend eating at Bar Bouchee - excellent cuisine!
Enjoy sitting on the side porch at the inn to relax, there are also bikes to use to explore the town and beaches. The innkeepers make you feel right at home.

We chose this B&B based on other Trp Advisor reviews but were left a little disappointed. To start with I wasn't too pleased that the owner debited my credit card five days before we were due to arrive especially as I had budgeted to pay cash when I exchanged Sterling to USD before we left the UK. None of the other B&B's that we have stayed at in the US have ever done this and we must have stayed at upwards of 20 over the years, some for repeat visits. The B&B itself had plenty of character and was spotlessly clean and we were looking forward to the excellent breakfasts that other visitors had been given and had written so much about. Our breakfast was a yogurt with some granola followed by home made waffles which were very good but we can get similar waffles back home in the UK at any supermarket and I have to say that the breakfasts that we had at our other three B&B's during our visit to the USA were much better and none of those hosts were trained chefs. Madison itself gives the impression of being a fairly affluent area and so the prices reflect this in restaurants and this B&B. We ate at the Bar Bouché restaurant which was very good but not cheap for what we had. If we visit the US again would we go to the Scranton Seahorse Inn? The jury is still out on that one but we have not hesitated to go back to other B&B's for a second time.

So sorry this visit is not what you expected. We do pride ourselves on perfecting every aspect of our business so your feedback is important. We always make exceptions to our written payment policy when guests ask us to. If you had mentioned it in your reservation record or in the emails we exchanged prior to your arrival I would not have charged your card.

Two crowd favorites are my housemade yogurt and granola AND the Hawaiin waffles with toasted coconut and macadamia nuts. Sorry this was not the case with you but I swore the cleaned plates told a different story!

Thank you again for taking the time to write a review. I did enjoy our breakfast conversation while you were here, especially the bit about the poison ivy! I hope you try us again on a return visit to the states.

Our second time back and we loved it. Very clean, very close to restaurants, shops, movies. Our room was very cozy and very clean. Michael is a superb host. Breakfast was extraordinary each day. We'll definitely keep coming back.

Our first visit was on April 14, 2012 we will definitely be back! The inn was beautiful and centrally located so we could walk to dinner. After dinner we enjoyed a nice bottle of wine on the side porch while watching the cars and people pass by. The breakfast was extraordinarily tasty and the guests all very friendly. Although we did not meet Bill and Olive, Michael was a delight. We really cannot wait to go back.

My wife and I chose the Scranton Seahorse Inn for an overnight getaway to celebrate our wedding anniversary during the first week of October. Trip Advisor was, of course, our bible for choosing a place to stay. The Scranton Seahorse was one of those B&Bs that received a rare 5 circle "Excellent" rating so we went for it. The inn is right on Route 1 in the center of Madison, walking distance from a couple of excellent restaurants and a short drive to Long Island Sound beaches and other points of interest. Michael, the innkeeper, was very helpful in advising on a choice of restaurant for our celebratory dinner and we were not disappointed when we went with one of his recommendations. The inn, despite being located right on the main drag, was very quiet for sleeping and we had a very restful night. The next morning our 3-course breakfast was delicious and Michael's skill as a chef was very much on display. MIchael was also very helpful in sorting out our plans for a walk that day in a local nature preserve. The only aspect of the Scranton Seahorse that kept me from rating it 5 circles was the room which, though comfortable and quiet, was oddly arranged and decorated. This did not detract from the enjoyment of our stay and I would rate the inn a 4.5 but in fairness to other B&Bs we've stayed in where all elements were first rate I felt this had to be mentioned. We would definitely return for another visit in the future.

I changed my mind several times while staying at the inn. It is a beautiful home with lots of quaint touches, right in the heart of town. I was however, disappointed with our room, The Long Island Mist (3) and would request a different room next time.

While it is a large, old home most is kept up very nicely, I do feel there needs to be improvement to that room. The vanity is very old and really low so one needs to bend way down to wash up. The bathroom door is also quite warped and difficult to open and close. There were lovely robes, but not enough towels, no full length mirror and small tube tv (not that you need tv) the bed juts out awkwardly in middle of room but would allow more space if against the wall. This would allow room for a small couch or chaise lounge for reading. On a positive note, the bed was very comfy, and the room has it's own temperature control which is ideal!

The Inn itself is lovely with nice common areas. The hosts leave you alone but are available if needed, and have coffee/tea and soda available at all times. The coffee room upstairs is a nice touch.

The breakfast was amazing, fresh ingredients served to you quickly and hot!! All cooked by Michael the owner. Loved it!

I think the Scranton Seahorse Inn has a lot of potential and we would definitely give it another try in the future.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a Jacuzzi tub

Thanks for staying with us and thank you for your comments and decorating suggestions. We do love to hear from guests and always take these seriously.

It breaks my heart that you didn't enjoy your stay in the Long Island Mist room. I list this as my favorite room for many reasons one of which is the antique vanity. I prefer to call it a perfect piece of antique marble and antique fixtures rather than "very old". It's all perspective! I appreaciate your good suggestion for a full length mirror and we'll work to make sure they are tastefully are installed in each room. I always leave full sets of towels for each guest but understand why some guests might want extras. I like your suggestion and will plan to put extras in the rooms going forward.

Thanks again for staying with us.
