“Great for a weekend away”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

My husband and I were looking for a hotel for a long weekend away. We wanted somewhere where we could walk easily to shops, restaurants, etc. and the Whaler's Inn was a great choice. We stayed in the newly renovated building. The room was clean and updated, yet had a very New England feel. The staff were very friendly. The only downfall was that the room opened directly to the outdoors, and some other people decided to stay up late nearby our room one night, which kept us up a bit, but compared to the noise levels we are used to in Manhattan it was not bad at all. We would definitely stay here again.

The Whaler Inn is great and I have stayed here a number of times though mostly off-season during the winter (we live in NYC but have a boat in Mystic). Location can't be beat as you are right downtown. The rooms are all different, depending on the building and floor so it's definitely worth going through them on the website to see what you are reserving. Breakfast is fairly simple but for the size of the hotel, no complaints.

Probably my only concern with the hotel is that weekends are generally two night minimum stay so it's not something you can do for a single night (though I have heard of people calling and getting a room for one night right before a weekend). That's to be expected during the summer as they usually fill up, but it doesn't make sense during off-season.

Overall, one of the best places to stay in Mystic!

Room Tip: Just use their website - there are pictures and descriptions of each room.

My biz partner and I were on midweek travel. We arrived and parked easily enough out back and proceeded to check in. Reception even arranged to open breakfast at 6:45a to accommodate us which was excellent. Noank House room was clean, but tired by today's standards. Will stay in Hoxie House next time.

When visiting Mystic, you can't be in a better location. You are right in downtown Mystic amidst all the shops and restaurants and just a short walk from the historic seaport. It is only a short drive to the aquarium, so if you want to visit both the aquarium and downtown Mystic, it is better to stay downtown than to stay at the larger hotels around the aquarium as you may need patience for the traffic around the drawbridge which comes to a complete stop every time the bridge is up (which happens quite often). The hotel itself is great, the rooms are fairly large for a B&B, very clean, quiet and nicely decorated. There is free parking at the hotel parking lot. Another great thing - Mystic is only 15 minutes from Westerly where you have two great beaches close by. Only one thing that may need improvement - I really don't like to be in a very nice hotel and eat breakfast from plastic and paper dishes. That always reminds me of a Day's Inn and maybe it's just me, but it just taste's better from a real mug/plate/spoon. Other than that, it is a great continental breakfast with a large selection of delicious food.

We spent two nights at The Whaler's Inn. I waited to make reservations and found we couldn't have the same room both nights, which was fine with me. The first room was in the back of the property with two double beds and a full bath. It was spotless and the beds were very comfortable. The staff offered to move our bags to the second room for us when I "checked out" from the first night, which I thought was very kind of them. However, the room for the second night was ready for us, so we just switched rooms.

The second room had one very comfortable queen bed. This room was also spotless. There was only a shower stall in this bathroom, which was fine for us. However, it is a small shower stall. There are some larger members of my family who would have had a tough time with the size. Again, it was fine with us, but would be something to consider for others.

Everyone was very kind and helpful. The woman who checked me in and out each day couldn't have been any nicer or helpful. They also offer discounted tickets to a few things in the town.
Breakfast had a nice variety of items with good coffee.

Some other reviews have mentioned the amount of street noise, but I didn't notice any noise. We were able to hear the horn for the drawbridge being raised, but that didn't surprise us.

Parking is also limited. There were no parking spaces when we returned to the inn the second evening. However, two of the hotel workers came out and moved their cars to open spaces for the guests. They didn't look grumpy while doing so. Instead, with a friendly wave, they moved their cars and walked back to the inn.

I gave this inn a very good rating only because of the size of the parking lot and only one key for each room. The inn does not use key cards, but instead uses a regular key. The convenience of two keys is very helpful.

I will definitely stay here again.

My wife and I stay for two nights in late July .Great location, clean and comfortable room. Staff was very friendly .But is there really any point to having 8 additional pillows on a motel room bed . When you need to use the bed theres no place to put them. I would much rather have a small fridge in the room which the rooms do not have. Other than that nice place to stay.

Room Tip: No elevators so rooms 40,41,42 easy access.

We stayed here for one night and wanted something in the heart of Mystic. This location was perfect. It is a lovely historic building. The room was pretty and clean. The bathroom appears to be updated but the shower is tiny. The front desk employees were very nice and helpful. We were able to walk the town and to restaurants. Great place in a great location!
