Pequot Hotel B and B
Ranked #6 of 12 Mystic B&B and Inns
Reviewed 16 October 2011

We had a great stay at Pequot Hotel B&B. Nancy and Jim had excellent breakfasts, heart waffles and fruit. Great New England decorations.

They also gave great suggestions on where to eat and what to see/do. We stayed in the suite and loved it! Comfortable beds, good shower, and nice view of the road.

We ate at Captain Daniel Parker Inne - sea scallops and steak were excellent. We also had the house cab (wine) and the pear frisee salad. All were excellent.

We visited the Mystic Seaport (excellent), Mystic Aquarium (OK if you have no kids), and US Submarine Nautilus museum (good). Jack's burgers - good Turkey burger.

The Cider Mill was packed and they were having a huge party so we did not stop. No parking was available there..... We went back to NYC via route 161, 156 - both scenic routes... made great time by leaving Groton, CT area at 5PM, in the city by 8PM.

Room Tip: Corner suite was great not too noisy given we were on the Old Post Road side...

Two colleagues and I stumbled upon Mystic and more importantly on the Pequot via the web and our only complaint is that we didn't stay longer. Nancy and Jim were fantastic hosts (thanks again Jim for the awesome pancakes); the rooms were quaint, yet perfect; the location is ideal (we never experienced any of the noise reported by other reviewers); and Nancy's reccommendations of places to eat were superb.

The Pequot Hotel restored our confidence in B & Bs. Our last experience in Nova Scotia wasn't so good. We didn't meet Jim, but Nancy is an exceptional hostess. The Inn is very comfortable and well decorated.
We stayed in the Carey room for two nights. We had only planned on one but chose to add another. There was some street noise and the bathroom door didn't completely close, but this is the east coast (it's busy) and the house is150 years old. The breakfasts we had were outstanding. Remember to bring cash or check. Everybody in Connecticut seems to hate credit cards and charge extra to use them.

We couldn't believe our good fortune in finding a B & B that was a stage coach in on the first American road in the country, the Old Post Road between Boston & NY. One wing built in the 1700's with an 1840's addition. We stayed in rooms used by the old coaching inn. Historic plumbing, sloping floors, blacksmith hewn door latches and a wonderful inviting sun porch. We loved it all. Our hosts were amazing - great tour guides, wonderful chefs and skilled in encouraging great cameraderie among the guests.

This place is adorable and completely worth the five minute drive to not pay $160 for The Holiday Inn Express. Nancy & Jim are so lovely and it was great to have breakfast with the other guests. We missed breakfast our next two mornings because breakfast is at 9:00 and we don't like to be stirring around that early whilst on a vacation. So, we headed into town and ate breakfast at Kitchen Little (get the pancake sandwich!). There are some other reviewers mentioning that one should keep in mind you're actually staying in Nancy & Jim's home. This didn't bother us because we weren't there much, going out all day and coming back later. Overall, a very sweet experience.

Yes, we usually offer breakfast at 9:00, but we work hard to satisfy the needs of our guests. We are happy to offer breakfast at earlier or later hours depending on the desires of our guests. I am sorry that we missed on this one.

Nancy and Jim offer warm hospitality, great conversations, and useful travel advice. They've done a remarkable job of renovating and restoring the character of this 1840 property. Don't get me wrong, we did have a nice time here, but there are some things that should be mentioned that we disliked about the property. First, we had the Carey Room with a queen bed. The room itself was nice, but the bathroom door didn't fully close. The biggest problem was the noise at night. The room is so close to the road that you are constantly hearing traffic from Cow Hill Road (a local road that carries a fair amount of traffic) and from the nearby highway all night long (semis and motorcycles especially). Another item that should be mentioned is that you are sharing a home with Nancy and Jim, which includes the tv/living room area. If you are planning on watching tv or a movie, it's a bit awkward if someone else is in the room first. Lastly, be aware that you will be charged extra for using a credit card. I was not notified until I needed to sign on the dotted line - this should have been mentioned upfront, especially when I had held the room with a credit card to begin with. As you've seen from other reviews, this is a nice place and is well run, but I did want to point out that this place isn't perfect and could be improved.

My husband and I went to visit my old college stomping grounds for the weekend and decided to stay at the Pequot Hotel B&B. That weekend, we were the only people staying at the inn and Nancy and Jim couldn't have been more accommodating! The rooms were impeccably clean and beautiful. We really felt like we stepped back in time, except for the incredibly modern bathroom with 2 shower heads and a jacuzzi tub! We especially enjoyed the lyric sheets hanging in the shower for your "singing in the shower" pleasure. Jim's blueberry pancakes are out of this world, and we can't wait to have some more when we visit again this summer. Great stay!
