We made a last minute decision to Head to the Rhode Island beaches for the Fourth of July weekend. We usually stay in Mystic when we do this as there is more to do at night. We were thankful that we were able to find a room at the Taber Inne and Suites. Our second floor room was really cute. It wasn't large by any means but plenty of room for a couple. Everything was spotless. We had a balcony and a two person jacuzzi, but I must confess we didn't take advantage of either of those things. The basic continental breakfast was included with the room. The only possible knock was that the AC had trouble keeping the room cool in the three days of 90 plus heat. It did however catch up at night and sleeping was not a problem.

Our family had the pleasure of staying at the Taber Inne and Suites in Mystic, CT and truly LOVED our stay. The staff is so extremely helpful and friendly. The grounds and room were immaculate and so comfortable. The location was perfect. The pool was so nice. Every aspect of our stay here was enjoyable and we are SO looking forward to our return trip next year. I can't imagine staying elsewhere in Mystic--it's so nice knowing where to stay now!

Room tip: You really can't go wrong with any room you pick here it is a high quality facility that clearly prides itself on its service. You will not be disappointed!

Our family of 4 stayed here for three nights as a long weekend. We stayed in the Carriage House, which has 2 BR and was very comfortable. We try to stay at smaller places like the Taber Inne (as opposed to the Hyatts of the world), but we did have one negative experience. There was a jacuzzi tub in our room, but the water went ice cold after letting the water run for about 5 minutes. We were looking forward to using this small luxury that we don't have at home, and were disappointed. We notified the owner, who blamed the issue on a hurricane from 6 months ago, which confused me. Like most smaller properties, issues like this require an external plumber, so the problem wasn't fixed during the 3 days we were there. Not the end of the world, but a disappointment....

We went to the Aquarium (10 minute drive) and the Seaport (20 minute walk). Here are a few pros and cons:

Pros:
1. Friendly family atmosphere
2. Nice pool
3. Nice Breakfast selection, although everything is disposable and it's a huge amount of trash.
4. Several rooms sizes to choose from, including suites that work well for families.
5. Affordable rates by Mystic standards
6. A few restaurants within 5 minute walk

Cons:
1. Horrible fitness center
2. It's about a 15 minute walk to downtown Mystic along busy Rte 1.
3. Some of the rooms face Rte 1, which is a very busy road.

If we return to Mystic as a family, we would return to the Taber Inne.

The Taber Inne was a good place for us to stay in Mystic. It's certainly not a fancy place but we liked the atmosphere (family-run, old-fashioned, a compound of buildings and add-ons accreted over time). We would certainly stay there again, not only for those reasons but also because of the restaurant across the street, the Mystic Market, where we ate 3 meals a day -- it's an upscale bakery/deli/sandwich/soup/coffee/gelato paradise.
