Description: Sea Swirl of Mystic was formerly a street side Carvel Ice Cream shop. It is located at 30 Williams Avenue at the junction of Routes 1 & 27 in Connecticut. Sea Swirl offers the best of fried clams and fantastic seafood plus has one of the most beautiful sunsets on the horizon. Outdoor dining overlooks the flood tide and customers can enjoy delicious ice cream as well. Sea Swirl may seem like an unlikely place to find four-star food, but for many years now, it has sustained a deserved reputation as one of the finest places to eat fried clams, especially the whole-belly variety. Sea Swirl serves a full roster of expertly fried seafood, including scallops, shrimp and fish. For an alternative to seafood, there are hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, vegetarian options and more.

This was fun. Stop at a seafood/ice cream stand, sit and eat your food at a shaded picnic table overlooking water (and the railroad, which is not "too" close by). Wonderful, excellent and fresh food, Our party ate clam strip roll, sweet potato fries, full-bellied clams, and crabcakes. We all left happy and eager for a return trip. Food is more expensive than the old days, but well worth it. Also has lobster rolls, but at $14.95, I went for the clam strip roll ($9.95) instead, and was not disappointed.

I return here often with my family every year as soon as it opens for the season! Usually order a foot long hot dog with fries, sometimes a shake, and who can resist a ice cream cone for dessert? The food is always hot and fresh. Employees are ALWAYS friendly and helpful to everyone. Food orders are quick! There is always a pretty colorful menu on the windows with awesome unique flavors of ice cream and just the selections of food this place serves, mainly seafood, but somewhat food similar to a pizza place. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is always interesting. We like to people watch and eat in our car. Place is usually busy so you want to get there before the parking fills up. Have been going to this place for over 10 years. It is always a nice treat! Never ever disappointed.

Don't be put off by the appearance. It may look like a roadside soft ice-cream stand, but trust me, the fried clam rolls are world class. My wife gets the clam strips and I get the whole belly. For two decades, we've wait eagerly for their spring opening. Yum!

I have been here several times, mostly because of convenience.
It's a challenge to find a clam in the clam fritters. The fried clams are okay, but portions are small for the price they charge.
If you want really great fried clams, try the Pizza Palace in Old Saybrook..Big Portions, comes won a big platter with fries, and thin delicious onion rings. If your disappointed with all the famous places that everyone else goes to;give the palace a shot.
Guarantee you will be impressed.
