The family had just finished touring the aquarium and we were up for something to eat. Typed in "pub" for a GPS search and selected something in the downtown area of Mystic so we could browse and shop afterwards. Voodoo Gill appeared and just the name was enticing. The exterior of the building doesn't exactly invite you in, but don't be fooled. They brought a taste of New Orleans to Mystic, CT. Small quaint restaurant / pub decorated in a New Orleans flare, HUGE mask on the wall the begs you to wonder how they got it in there. Greeted immediately in a friendly manner that was warm an inviting. Menu has a large variety, more than one would expect and it is not the standard pub fare. First off, to our amazement and joy for my father, the menu caters highly to GF dishes (gluten free). Large variety of malted beverages (tap or bottle), so went with the Mystic Pale Ale (enjoyable). Better half went with a "Beach Bum" (Coconut Rum / Banana Liquor / Pineapple Juice). Mother chased version of their martini and Pops a GF friendly beer. Opened with (GF) alligator bites with jalapeño and a nice spicy sauce. Menu options were all across the board for the gang (Hanker Steak Sandwich / Shrimp Creole / Pulled Pork - excellent / Chicken). Family of 5 ranging in all ages and we were thoroughly pleased with our meal no complaints, no leftovers. Little one and better half split the huge cookie dough ice cream dessert. Service was exceptional and friendly. Offered advice, helped with GF ideas, quick to refill the glasses that emptied quickly, and very very friendly. Honesty, we felt like regulars that had been coming for years. Don't allow the name or exterior fool you, very worthy of a stop for just one, a lunch, or that spicy dinner you have been craving. We kind of just discovered it and were so glad we did. They also had outdoor patio dining. Located just past the chaos of downtown, parking might be difficult to locate, but after walking all day at the aquarium, this was a perfect little relaxing meal and beverage opportunity. These are the kind of places you "discover" and then talk about afterwards when remembering a vacation or getaway. Thanks Voodoo, nice job!!!
