A beautiful 18th century inn in a beautiful setting. Rooms are nicely decorated, and many have fireplaces. Staff is friendly. A nice, continental breakfast is served at 7:30am. Large, covered porch available for drinks and dining in season.

While, if you need to be in New Canaan, the location is great, parking is ample and the grounds are pretty, the inn needs some work. The carpets on the stairs and halls are dirty; the window air conditioners are very noisy. The bed was comfortable and the linens were nice. Breakfast selection is very limited (cereal, coffee, breads) and on Saturday, service doesn't begin until 8. As far as we could see, all the rooms are different - our's was roomy and we didn't have any issues with noise from other guests.

We did have a standard room for two nights (Rm. 25). Tiny room with everything crammed in. Window treatment next to air conditioner did not cover window fully, so in the morning light at 5:30 AM would shine into room. Toilet seat feel off when lifting and they did send someone to adjust it.
Shower/Bath faucet was hard to lift to get a full strength shower.
The carpeting on the staircase steps was warn and dirty looking. Breakfast was fine, but two mornings for the two days having breakfast, in the dining room, the floor was not cleaned after dinner the night before. Crumbs and wrappers were on the floor, under seats and tables. I think management should pay more attention to detail and staff accountability, by following up on how the surroundings should appear to visitors.
The staff was extremely accomodating and pleasant. The Inn is pretty & the food was good.

Room Tip: Stay away from Room #25.

We had a large, charming room with a kingsized bed and a fireplace in the main building. Walls however are thin. During our stay there was a wedding and people made a lot of noice, shouting from one room to another,

Staff is nice and helpful.

We were disappointed about the very limited breakfast with no choice at all., which is not in line with the luxurious rooms and the nice dinners. Also, nobody of the staff is around in the breakfast room.

I stayed at the Roger Sherman Inn this past Memorial Day weekend. It was very quaint and nice. The service was good. There's ample parking. I had dinner in the restaurant one night and it was my favorite meal in New Canaan. The room was tiny though. I stayed in one of the "standard" rooms on the second floor of the inn. There was just enough room for the full size bed (not queen), dresser, nightstand, chair, lamp, and tiny closet. The bathroom was also tiny. If you are two or more, you should select "superior" or above. Also, there's no central air or heat. The A/C and heater is a window unit and it gets quite stuffy in the room when you turn it on after awhile. Also, they say the continental breakfast starts at 7:00AM but the staff didn't start setting up the breakfast table until about 7:45AM both mornings I was there. Other than that, it was a nice experience. If you're looking for a quiet place to stay in New Canaan, this is a good choice.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are small. Choose superior or above.
