The Schooner is a two masted sailing ship that runs boat cruises and evening sails from Long Wharf in New Haven. It docks at the pier next to where the Armistad used to dock. The afternoon cruise I was on was a great way to spend a lovely afternoon with family cruising New Haven harbor. Other rides go out into Long Island sound. passengers can experience hands on how the boat is prepared for sailing by helping hoist the sails. There is a great science program that had even toddlers enthralled. The kids were able to touch the star fish and other fish in the touch pool. Food was not available on the ship during the afternoon anyways but you can bring your own food and drinks. Crew was fantastic and really interacted with passengers. The pier was a little hard to find but is right across the highway from the Ikea store. The highway is unfortunate as it blocks what could be a wonderful water resource for New Haven. It's still worth locating this attraction if you are in New Haven. website www.schoonerinc.org
