“Stunning”

An incredible testament to creativity. Loved the architecture and the design of the building, we didn't stay long enough and therefore only managed to see a couple of rare manuscripts. Beautiful library.

“Masterpiece of architecure and design”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2014

Largest building in the world dedicated to a rare books and manuscript collection. Magical setting: the thin translucent marble walls filter the light from outside. The public is free to wander in and gaze at the giant pillar of book-stacks protected by the outer marble shell. The Gutenberg Bible and Audubon Birds of America are on display at all times, but there are also 2-3 special exhibitions of the library's treasures. The exhibits we saw were very interesting and well curated.

Any visitor to Yale or New Haven should add this to their itinerary. This amazing structure, by Isamu Noguchi is part repository and part sculpture.

“Must see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2013

This place is a must see in New Haven! Even for non-bibliophiles, the central book stack is a spectacular sight. I loved that it was free to wander in, look in the vitrines at very old and significant books, and to learn a little bit from the display texts. The building itself is really interesting, and if you go on the Yale tour, they'll tell you about it in more detail.
