Thanks for your great review - it's fantastic to know where we're getting it right. We love hosting weddings and it makes us all the more happy to know that the wedding party & guests love being here too. We're huge foodies here so we're glad you enjoyed our menu! Hope to have you again very soon!

Take care,

Thanks to the superb service in helping us set up for a conference, our product launch went very smooth without any problems. Thank you very much for the lovely refreshments and snacks. Many of our delegates commented on the beautiful venue. I unfortunately did not stay over.

It was an absolute pleasure! We know conferences can be a tad stressful sometimes so glad to know we could help in making it a smooth experience. A shame that you couldn't stay over this time round - next time we hope!

Best wishes,

Thanks so much for the wonderful review. We also thought the wedding was absolutely beautiful! We love it when we hear that our wedding-planning efforts are making the guests happy as well as the bride and groom. Looking forward to that visit in the future!

All the best, the Bailey family and the Singa team.

The service was excellent, professional and friendly. The rooms are tastefully decorated and spacious. The close proximity to the sea to enjoy an excellent run in the evenings was what I enjoyed most.

Huge room, beautifully decorated with everything you need. Located 5 minutes walk from a lovely beach and 15 minutes to the boardwalk restaurants. Excellent breakfast and really helpful staff. I'd definitely recommend staying here.

We were greeted very nicely at the Singa Lodge by a very courteous and professional staff. The place has a nice reception area and a well groomed garden, which created a nice atmosphere in an otherwise very unromantic surrounding. We did not feel very safe outside the lodge during the evening and this feeling is strengthened due to the fact that the lodge is better protected than Fort Knox with an electrified fence and an electronic entrance door. But we guess the accommodation cannot be blamed for crime in the area.
The place was obviously not booked out, because it was very quiet, with no one at the pool and at breakfast just one other couple. The breakfast was ok, but not more than that. Service was at all times absolutely excellent and friendly!
We had a large suite, which was indeed enormous. It though suffered from a waste of valuable space and a lack of taste in design. Most of the suite was built in stone, including the bed, and the design itself was something of a cross between middle eastern and Indonesian. Something we have seen more often in B&B's and hotels in South Africa is that the toilet is not separated by a good door. I personally do not need to hear or smell what is going on in the toilet when I'm in bed. The room also suffered in general from a somewhat weird smell, possible from bad plumbing.
We stayed over for one night, which was fine. We wouldn't recommend to stay an entire holiday here, also because Summerstrand is just not very nice.
Upon checkout our car was washed, which I think it is a nice touch. If we ever need to pass through Port Elizabeth again, we would probably stay over for one night, but not again in that suite.

Thank you for letting us know your thoughts, we think you've been very fair. It really helps us polish up when we receive such honest opinions and we really appreciate the feedback. Singa is eclectic and although we think that's part of what makes it so charming, we understand that it isn't for everyone. Thanks again for picking up on the friendly service: we're really glad that although it wasn't the greatest experience for you, you still felt welcome. We're not sure what seems to have been the problem regarding the plumbing but we've cleared all the drains to make certain this doesn't happen again. We are so sorry that this made your night rather unsettling. From the outside, we've tried our best to minimise the 'Fort Knox' feeling you experienced. We want all our visitors to know that they are safe and secure which is why we have gone to such length in providing the extra security measures, even though it doesn't look particularly attractive to many people. Your feedback has allowed us to see with fresh eyes and everything you have said we will take to heart and know that you've helped us improve. You seem like very accomplished globe-trotters and we're so grateful that you're willing to give us a second chance if and when you come back to sunny South Africa. Our very best wishes from the Bailey family and the rest of the Singa Town Lodge team.

My childhood friend and I started our Garden Route tour in PE. We arrived from Joburg on a 3 pm flight. I didn't hear a lot about Port Elizabeth before we came, so I considered it a short stop-over on our week-long trip. We are both American, but I have been living in South Africa for almost two years. Our drive from the airport was unimpressive. When we arrived at Singa, I was surprised to find a lovely oasis in the otherwise short, drab ride from the airport! We were warmly greeted and taken to our room. While our room was lovely, the shower was glass and situated where there is no privacy. Once I explained to the manager on duty that we are only friends, she put us in two separate rooms because the lodge was not fully booked. My second room was even more fabulous than the first! And, both of our showers were more private. We could have stayed in either room. The furnishings are unique in each room and fabulous! I saw four rooms in total and each was special. This is a very romantic place to stay, and we wished our husbands were able to make the trip with us!
We were only a short walk to the beautiful beaches of PE. We explored the shoreline in the evening and the following morning. We opted to have dinner at the hotel as the grounds are so beautiful, and the food was fabulous! It was a limited three-course menu, but both of us were able to choose dishes we enjoyed immensely. The breakfast in the morning was amazing as well. This was our one and only stay in PE. I was, however, surprised to see the other reviewers' thoughts on their stay here. We had a lovely experience and believed the lodge deserve their 5 star rating based on our other experiences. The only complaint I had was that I could hear the kitchen staff from my room in the evening and the morning. I put on the AC and went back to sleep. If the manager had been there during check-out, I would have mentioned that the dishes were stacked and washed noisily. If I had been told to put on the AC, I would have slept peacefully. The bed was so amazing, that I drifted back to sleep.

Room Tip: Ask about the placement of the shower and if the toilet has a door. Many of the rooms do have a priv...

Wow! It sounds like you really had a wonderful time. Thank you so much for your kinds words, it means so much to us that we could be part of this special experience with you. It really makes our hearts sing when we hear praises like yours. From your feedback we can tell that we need to work a bit harder on making sure that when you book, you know what kind of privacy settings you're looking at when sharing a room. Thanks for letting us know and for helping us make this more clear to other travelers in your room tip. We're so glad that you managed to get back to sleep after being disturbed by the cleaning staff; we've discussed your concerns about noise with the team, thank you for bringing this to our attention to be dealt with. It sounds like overall you had a wonderful time and you made the most of what the area has to offer- a short walk to the beach in the evening is the perfect way to end a day of traveling. We're delighted that you decided to stay in and eat at the lodge- you really do just get to enjoy the place so much more. It really makes all the difference that you've shared your thoughts on TripAdvisor- that you were so kind is a blessing. We hope you will return with your husbands in no time. Our best wishes from the bailey family and the rest of the Singa Town Lodge team.
