We stayed for one night prior to driving the Garden Route. We arrived late in the severe storm and I must say that the night check in was far from friendly or even professional. However, the room was large with a spot on view of the Indian Ocean. The bathroom was huge and clean. Small kithenette with microwave, fridge and sink. Breakfast was not included but a great breakfast with hot and cold buffet and eggs to order was R100 pp. The service outside of check in was OK. All in all good choice for a comfortable and convenient short stay in PE.

Spectacular ocean view. Friendly staff. P.E. is not exactly a tourist Mecca, but this hotel suits just fine. They made us feel safe and at home.

We stayed for a week and found that the location was excellent. We were able to go on a safari and were picked up from the hotel. From our room we overlooked the promenade and the bay. We were a short walk away from the Boardwalk, which is a beautiful place for tourists to eat and take in the sights around an artificial lake stocked with exotic fish. Indeed on a par with the V & A Waterfront. While we were there the Splash festival was taking place (Easter Holidays), with young people involved in games, stalls, shows and dancing. A colourful and peaceful festival. The rooms were excellent with a more than adequate bath and shower room. Internet facilities are excellent. We had a ground floor room which enabled us to walk to the pool in the morning for a dip. The pool overlooks the promenade and the bay and would have been absolutely perfect had it not been for the poor quality of the pool water. The bottom of the pool could not be clearly seen suggesting that the filtration system or the level of chlorine was not sufficient. Nevertheless the staff were warm and helpful and there is a happy hour from 5-7 were drinks are free. We never sampled the breakfasts so I cannot comment on them. However if we were to go to Port Elizabeth again we would definitely stay at the Courtyard again.

I stayed at the Courtyard on 2 occasions. One was with a friend for a shopping trip and the other with my husband for a weekend away. I enjoyed both stays very much as the staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and I loved the large bathroom. The kitchenette was a nice addition for warming up some food. The rooms had a wonderful sea view and balcony. The boardwalk casino is walking distance, but the hotel has a shuttle service to and from the casino. Happy hour between 17:00 and 19:00 was a great surprise where they serve snacks and drinks on the house. On my first trip we thought we had to pay and stayed until 20:00 for our last cup of coffee. When we asked for the bill we were informed that there was no charge. The staff did not once give a hint that we should leave since the service is only until 19:00 but served us with a smile.
I can recommend this hotel to anyone

I stayed about a week here for business. I haven't tried any other hotels, but it seemed to be a good choice for me as it was convenientlly located near my business meetings.

Pros:
My room had a perfect view of the ocean. Enjoyed having the balcony windown open to hear the roar of the ocean
Housecleaning was very efficient. Even though I was in the room and odd times during the day, they never got in my way
The little kitchen (think a closet with a microwave, sink, coffee maker and basic utensils) a nice surprise.
Pleasant amount of space, to work, various outlet plugs already in the room if you need to plug in your laptop
Lots of easy parking
The employees were friendly and helpful.

Cons:
The floor seemed to carry a lot of dirt (could tell from bottom of my socks. ) My guess is that as PE is very windy, it sticks in the carpet. Overall though the room was very clean.
No mini bar
No restaurant, other than the breakfast
No loudspeaker on the phone (in case you need to make a call conf)//// although we did use a guest service office for printing, etc, which was extremely useful.

We were fortunate to have had a three night stay at the Courtyard Hotel in Port Elizabeth. We stayed in their "basic" room which had ample space, a fully equipped kitchenette, and best of all, a balcony which overlooked the sea. The bathroom was spectacular, with all the mod cons, and clean. We were invited to "happy hour" from 5 to 7 when drinks and snacks were served "on the house". We liked our surroundings so much that we didn't go out much, we sat on the balcony and watched the boats and ships and the surfers. We didn't make use of the lovely pool because the weather was a bit chilly, but I would imagine that it would be a hit in summer.

The staff was friendly and helpful, which made our stay more pleasurable.

Close to the Courtyard is the Boardwalk, which comprises of restaurants, a gambling centre, a movie complex, etc. We liked Bluewaters Cafe (on the beachfront) and coffee at Dulce (in the Boardwalk).

The breakfast was great, so we had to get some exercise. We took long walks along the beachfront, there is a pedestrian walk which could keep you walking for about an hour or more.

I think the rooms are priced reasonably, but to add to the fun, you can go to ---- and bid for a room - if you are lucky you might get a fantastic room for much less than the advertised price!
