If you want to get a good feel about a town, visit their old cemeteries! The Norwichtown Historic Cemetery aka the Colonial Cemetery has some very interesting old headstones along with the graves of Benedict Arnold's mother and Samuel Huntington who was the President of the Second Continental Congress. When you visit, be sure to visit both the front area of the cemetery as well as the back area which is accessed via a bridge over a small stream. If you walk all the way to the back of the older portion of the cemetery (once you've crossed over the bridge) you'll see Samuel Huntington's former home to your right (it is now used as a community building) and a set of gates which were originally located in downtown Norwich and were erected at the cemetery by the Daughters of the Revolution to commemorate those colonial soldiers who are buried in the cemetery.
