I highly enjoyed the stay at Zen Namkhan Resort, because it allowed us to relax in the midst of the most beautiful location one can imagine. In contrast to the touristy sites in town, this place allows you to settle your mind. At the resort you have a magnificent view of the lush nature surrounding Luang Prabang. You can just stroll around the site and there's all you need for a perfect stay: the resort has an ecological pool, a spa and what I loved most is the rope bridge that made me feel like Indiana Jones. The bungalows are spacious and furnitured in beautiful Asian design. The bathroom was classy and the mixture of elegant wood, stone and glass materials provided for a comfortable experience. Especially the outdoor shower on the balcony is unique, while it is secured from others' views one can enjoy a fantastic view of the valley while taking a shower.
Furthermore, if you are searching for a mix of relaxation and activity, you can visit nearby Tad Sae waterfall, or do some kayaking. And of course there's Moon at the resort who'll do all she can to make you have a great stay.

We stayed in the Zen Namkhan Resort for two nights with our three daughters. At the time, it was New Years in Luang Prabang and the town was a bit crazy, with water fights and lots of drinking. The Zen Namkhan was a wonderful retreat from the noise of the city. It is set in a quiet and peaceful spot about 25 minutes from town. It has a beautiful pool, good breakfast, friendly staff and the bungalows are seperated from each other so we didn't have to worry about our kids' disturbing other guests.
This resort is more expensive than the places we usually stay, but less than many places we priced in Luang Prabang that were not as roomy and did not have pools. The one drawback is the location. It is quite a distance from Luang Prabang town. We had a rental car, so it was not a problem, but without a car you would have to arrange with the hotel to get to and from town. Unless you just want to stay at the resort and really chill.

I stayed at Zen Namkhan for just one evening, but wish it was longer! The service was impeccable, the food delicious, and the atmosphere incredibly relaxing. The rooms, while cozy in size, all have individual balconies overlooking the river or countryside, making it feel like a private view. The resort sort of cascades over the side of the hill down to the river, with a Japanese bath hut, a dock on the river, and some trails through the woods. The eco-infinity pool was very refreshing. Be sure to visit the elephant reserve nearby where you can be a mahout for a day and help save the elephants.

Einfach empfehlenswert.

After Vientiane, 8.5hrs in a car (a scenic trip, worth the backpain) and two days in Luang Prabang we rounded of our visit to Laos with 2 nights at the Zen Namkhan. What a difference. We felt both at home (in the Austrian mountains) and in a remote part somewhere in the tropics. And it has the best of both worlds. A kayak tour down the river in front of the resort, (luck we had) a full moon over a scenic view from our chalet, hospital people, and real good night's rest with the cool breeze of the mountains. That's what you can expect. Don't expect any entertainment, food choices or five star luxury. You could visit Luang Prabang from here, but it'll cost you, take time and be uncomfortable. But that's what we had the days before. It was everything we expected and why we've chosen this resort to end our trip.

From the moment we arrived at Zen to the morning we drove down the narrow winding road for the last time it was a dream come true. If you are looking for a wonderful place in the hills of Laos to relax at and explore from then this is the right place for you. We stayed for a week and enjoyed every second. I must admit that we spent a lot of time roaming the countryside freely, experiencing the true beauty Laos has to offer. Thanks for the set up Luc. That being said, the Zen is equally as stunning as it is set in the middle of the jungle. Cool in the morning & night and hot during the day. If you are feeling the heat take a dip in the eco pool or ask about the fresh water waterfalls in the area. We only had a few meals (mostly breakfast) while staying at Zen and they were all tasty. We also enjoyed a few glasses of wine at night while sitting up in the "crows nest" on top of the dining area.

All I can say is thank you Luc for pulling out the machete and cutting your way through some very dense forest to find the perfect location to make your dream come true......and even better to let us all have the opportunity to experience it for ourselves too. Well done mon ami....well done. See you on the flipside.....Nic & Paula.

The Zen Namkhan is brand new and located on the hillside above the Namkhan River near Luang Prabang. The bungalows are elegantly spare and overlook the mountains across the river that recede into the distance. The restaurant is delicious and boasts an open air, sun-filled library on the second level, along with plenty of poolside lounge chairs for pleasant, undisturbed reading. The hotel is a fair distance from Luang Prabang proper but offers a wonderful respite from the touristy crowd downtown.
