Last month (February 2005) I decided to take my family to a hotel about an hour away from home to spend an evening swimming in a nice indoor pool for the children and a to relax by the pool myself and read. I browsed the internet and found a Days Inn hotel that had an indoor rooftop pool. When we arrived around 6 p.m. I asked the clerk what time the pool was open until. He told us there was no longer a pool and that it was damaged last year and was never repaired. The kids were so disappointed and we knew we have to find another hotel. It was a Saturday night and I knew it would be hard to find another place especially with a pool. The clerk (Dave) happened to be very helpful. He went out of his way to find us another place. It took him a good half an hour and made about 10 calls. He lastly found a Ramada Inn in Branford, CT which was about 20 minutes south of Old Saybrook. It had a pool so (although it was only 3 feet the kids still enjoyed it) we headed there. This was a very big inconvenience to us and this shouldn't happen to anyone. I emailed Days Inn and received no response. I then called and made a complaint to customer service and was told that Days Inn is not responsible for other websites (Hot Seasons and Expedia) advertisements. She said they gather their information from other websites. This made no sense to me. However, she said she would lodge the complaint. A couple of days later I received a reply to my email from Kelli Jung stating that Days Inn's are owned and operated independently and that she would share my complaint with the owner. She also said she was sorry and hoped I would stay at Days Inn again. I emailed her back and told her this wasn't acceptable and that I believed a complimentary stay would be suitable. She emailed me again and said they would not do this because we didn't stay there and that I should contact Expedia to see if they would offer some type of stay. I emailed her back and stated "Isn't this the way these days, PASS THE BUCK. I think Days Inn should be responsible for the way their hotels are advertised and they should be held accountable. I know in the future I would not give Days Inn my business because they really inconvenienced myself and my family and most of all, my time. I hope everyone else really looks into the advertising being done by Days Inn and doesn't get trapped like we did. Thanks for listening.
