We stayed at Captain Grant's based on the reviews we read here. And we can't wait to go back!!! Can't say enough about how beautiful the house was. Our room was perfect, the bed so-o-o-o comfortable. Ted and Carol...so nice, so friendly...and a delicious breakfast. You can't beat the location for the casinos, Mystic, and other points of interest. Ted and Carol know how to make you feel like family...the perfect B&B. Thanks!

Room Tip: We stayed in the 'Marie'...on the small side, but we were still very comfortable.

We had a delightful one night stay at this lovely B&B. I had read the reviews and was kind of nervous, thinking it was haunted. How exciting! Well, we didn't get to meet any of the ghosts, but we did get to meet Carol and Ted, awesome innkeepers. Our room was delightful, a four poster bed with a step stool to get up on the bed. We were served a delicious breakfast out on the porch, the table was set beautifully. Carol makes jams and jellies, even a strawberry rhubarb compote which was yummy spread on the homemade pancakes. Ted was very helpful in guiding us to a very nice Italian restaurant very close to the Mohegan Sun Casino. The cost of our stay was quite a good deal and we would recommend this B&B to all.

Very cute B&B. We stumbled upon this when looking for a cheaper place to stay than Mohegan Sun. At $160 per night, this easily met the bill considering Mohegan Sun wanted $400 per room. Best part, it's just 4 miles from Mohegan so it was close for us.

The B &B is in an old historic house. Our bedroom, the Elizabeth room, had a large canopy bed with a private bathroom and complimentary sherry in the room. The house also had complimentary cake and wine and beer throughout the day. Very nice touch.

The breakfast served was also great. I've read other reviews though and it did differ on the day we were there. Still, it was eggs, sausage, and pancakes, with tea and coffee.

We found out after breakfast that many people believe the house to be haunted. If you look on their website, they list quite a few articles that reference this haunted B &B. Some of the articles claim this is one of the top 10 hotels in the country to see a ghost. They were hosting a seance after breakfast on the weekend we were there and it seemed like everyone else was there for that. If you believe in ghosts, this might be either a deal-breaker or a total plus.

I would definitely stay here again.

Indeed, practically everything about our 5-night stay at Carol and Ted's B&B was perfect, most everything. The only issue we had at first was some somewhat unclear e-mail messages we'd exchanged regarding pricing, but we totally understood that those emails occurred during their vacation in Alaska before we arrived, so not a real issue for us in the end, especially once we got there and stayed for those wonderful five nights (I would simply recommend clearly asking for prices and keeping clear records of what room you'll get at what price). Upon arrival, we found the owners both kind and helpful. Carol showed us room options, but we went with the smaller house on the property, which we felt was a bit more intimate (even though we were a family of four and didn't need "intimacy," if you will); in the two photos I'm posting, the smaller house is the blue-green one, not the darker yellow main house. Both houses have rooms for guests, but the dining room is in the main house (and outdoor porch seating, too)--and we didn't mind making our way up to that house each morning for breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, it was simply awesome each day. Variety for the most part--even over five days, with main breakfast staples such as pancakes, grits, English muffins, eggs done differently, etc. The fruit was fresh, the sausages were varied, too, and the homemade jams were delectable. As for the accommodation, I'd say you have to expect that you'll get what an old building(s) can provide: crooked, slanted flooring in our room, for example; however, we took that in stride knowing that the place is from the late 1700's. Our bed had to be leveled out using blocks, which sometimes slipped out from under the framing, but again, we didn't expect perfect, up-to-date architecture in such an old building. Classic and charming, our building and the main house both just oozed history. As far as upkeep, cleanliness, etc., all went smoothly for the most part. The bedding was changed daily, and the towels were fresh, even though we'd hung them up to not get them changed every day as the "green" placards suggested; however, our trial-sized shampoo went empty for two days until we remembered to ask for more, and some Q-tips that had fallen on the bathroom floor stayed there for three days, so we wondered about what was being cleaned or not in the bathroom. Really, we didn't have any major issues, though, with upkeep while there. Ted and Carol were both overly helpful, and they served our needs nicely, especially since we had a family of four with extra needs like filling hot water for our baby's formula, etc. They also were willing to accommodate a short-notice request for toast one morning at 8am--even though breakfast was served for all at 9am--and then they actually made eggs and extra items for us, something we didn't expect. Additionally, being that my mother (who was battling cancer in Norwich, just up the street) called Ted's cell four times one afternoon, I expected him to be upset, but he was rather accommodating and understanding--and they showed empathy when she passed away the following day. Without any doubt, we'd have no qualms about staying there again or recommending this B&B to others. If you expect something akin to a modern Ritz Carlton, I wouldn't book this place, but if you want charming, history-filled atmosphere, jump at the chance to stay here.

Stayed at Captain Grants in mid June. What a super place to stay . From the room , the Collette room, to the game room , the quiet outside setting, the old cemetary, and the wonderful breakfast. Carol and Ted are fantastic hosts. Made our stay relaxing and interesting. With 2 casinos and 3 wineries along with the Mistic area that are all close to Captain Grant. The breakfasts were large with a variety of dishs. More than ample amount of food, coffee, and juices.Staying at Captian Grants was the highlight of our trip to Connecticut. We would recommend Captain Grants to anyone wanting to stay at a B&B. We absolutly enjoyed getting to know Carol and Ted.

Room Tip: Stayed in the Collette room but all looked very good.

Carol and Ted are the highlight of the B&B - you could not ask for better Inn Keepers - they become FAMILY! Breakfast is the best part of the stay from 5 star food to 5 star company!! The rooms are very unique and well kept. The entire place is just so comfortable and homey. The entire staff is so nice and accommodating. They are all very informative from sight seeing to restaurants to things to do.....A MUST STAY EXPERIENCE!! You wont regret it! See you soon Carol and Ted!!!! xoxo

My husband and I where there mid april. The house is very beautiful. Carol makes the best homemade jam. I bought some before I left. Now, she's mailing me some all the way to Texas. They have an antique pool table in the game room. Overall, I would stay there over and over if it wasn't on the other side of the US.
