“Excellent Experience at La Scolgliera”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2010

Great first time at this restaurant last night. Bobby, our server, was excellent and the food was superb. The special dessert the owner made for us as first-timers was incredible. Some friends had strongly recommended it and they were right! We will be back soon!

“Response to Review of Why it cannot be called an Italian Ristorante”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2008

ChiantiConnecticut, I am sorry you had a bad experience at La Scogliera. I have to sincerely disagree with you. I on the other hand, had a wonderful experience. We were a party of 2.. we had reservations and a table ready for us to be seated. The reservation was for 5:30. The ambience of the restaurant, although small, is very quaint and extremely family oriented; I felt. The entrees we chose were exceptional and well worth the price. The wine selections they presented were reasonably priced. I've eaten at over-priced restaurants with expensive wines where the food and the ambience did nothing for the place. As far as cleanliness goes I did not notice anything unsanitary. This restaurant and its name has been carried for over 3 centuries. I first started eating at this restaurant when it was located in Southern Fairfield County, I don't intend to stop now and it truly has had a tremendous following. I would suggest for next time to make a reservation so that you can enjoy an appetizer, entree and delicious homemade deserts.

“cant be called italian ristorante...read on as to why..its shocking”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2008

i would like to hear from others as i had the oddest experience here!! let me start by explaining we went on a wednesday nite
and arrived at 5:00 pm with no reservation...we entered and we
were a party of 3...they asked if we had a reservation, and i said no...
i said dont rush i know we are early...trying to be polite because
you could see they were setting up an outdoor chair setup..and
they must have just opened...
well out came the menu's...and it is very expensive
cannot get a bottle of red wine for under 30.00
so we ordered a carafe of house red and it was 23.00
dinners were expensive and to our dislike no salad
included...so we shared one salad since we had to add it
to already expensive entre...so our dinners come out when we
are still on the salad!!! which is so annoying!!!!!! no room for dishes!!!
we finish our entre's, and they come to get dessert order
and i say"can we take a 10 minute rest and then order ??
well we were then informed that the table was reserved
and we had until 6:15 to finish !! so dessert would have to
hogged down in like 15 minutes...how disgusting!!
i said i cant believe this is italian dining....lol !!!!!!!!
now the server was sad i was not happy, and did offer
a free cheesecake...but i said pls give me the check
and at least let us finish the half left of the 23.00 carafe
of wine..dear lord...what are they thinking here !!!
now as far as tables go...they have like 2 tables that
seat 4...the other few tables are set for parties of 10
they must squish them in even if not related i guess...
bottom line is the place is too small...they cant do an early
seating...plus the ones who were reserved for 6:15 would
have it equally as bad, because i am certain an 8:00
reservation would be placed on their table..no way
can you order appetizer etc,,...this is UNACCEPTABLE..
for expensive italian ristorante,...turning tables like this.
I also noticed the bus boy, who was filling all the water pitchers
which were on a table in the hallway...had dropped the linen
cloth on the floor , and then placed the same cloth over
the top of all the pitchers of water...which was about 6
pitchers..with linen napkin on top...i thought about this...
i realized this hallway is in route to restrooms and door
in and out and this is just not very sanitary !!!!
he was a young kid, and guessed no one saw, but i did !!
pls email me , what do you think about all of this ??
it is such a shame as the actual food is impeccably
excellent ...that is why this is such a sad thing...i am sure
they will not survive...in business due to this.
