“FABULOUS wedding weekend hotel”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

We used this hotel for our wedding weekend and loved everything about it. Everything was absolutely wonderful for our guests and us. From the excellent attention we received, to the delicious restaurant, impeccable room conditions, and beautiful decor, The Delamar Southport exceeded all of our expectations. We can't wait to celebrate our anniversaries with weekend getaways to The Delamar Southport!!

Room Tip: The suites are absolutely STUNNING!

Spacious and well appointed room, with a large bathroom. Staff was welcoming but didn't go out of their way to serve us. Of course we didn't really need anything. Our room overlooked the restaurant courtyard and was a little loud in the evening, but quieted down by 10:30 PM. Our rate included breakfast which was served in the Artisan restaurant and was a nice selection of food and beverages in a beautiful setting.

We didn't stay in a room that faced the street, (the hotel is next to I-95) but we noticed how loud the traffic was in the mornings and evenings. Ask for a courtyard room if possible.

Beautiful, well maintained building and very elegant surroundings. I would stay again.

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms will have noise from the restaurant, but that ends around 10:30pm, The rooms that f...

What a find. The Delamar is a great hotel with a very welcoming staff. We were treated so well by everyone. The rooms are fantastic, spacious, comfortable, and clean. When you are travelling on business and living out of a suitcase, it's nice to be able to spread out a little in your room. The Delamar has large rooms with nice bathrooms. We had a larger king, with a fireplace and a small kitchen area (microwave, little fridge, sink). We even had two closets, which is nice for a couple. I cannot say enough about this hotel. It's right on the freeway, which makes it convenient to get from city to city. The freeway location may scare some people, but it didn't bother us at all (no noise in the room) The restaurant Artisan is outstanding (that review comes next). Can't wait to go back to the Delamar. It was simply lovely.

My family of 4 stayed at Delamar for one night. The location near the freeway worked great and the accommodations did not feel like a roadside hotel. Our deluxe double was spacious & comfortable. I would return to the Delamar if I was in that area.

Pros: Rooms are beautifully maintained and very generous in size. Excellent staff at the front desk, housekeeping. Great spot outside to have breakfast, easy to walk into Southport to local business and down to the Harbor.

Cons: Called Artisan Restaurant re: room service hours, takeout available? They didn't seem to know the answers. Also only room service in the evening, so went across the street to the Gray Goose to get takeout lunch.

Very pleasant hotel. Recommend that anyone who needs to be in the area consider it. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food was good. They gave us a big room either because we were three or referred by a friend of the owner, but the latter was not apparent and the lack of recognition in this regard was a little disappointing because it was the referral that won the hotel the business. Also, we had a very decent dinner at an Indian restaurant effectively around the corner.

My only knocks are: it is next to the highway (ask for a room on the courtyard side - an easy fix); there is not any surrounding town infrastructure (retail/activities) for wandering around; the immediate neighborhood is not particularly attractive (cheap land acquisition cost goes a long way to toward profitability); and when I wanted to take a bottle of wine we had outside to drink it, I was "asked" to take out only glasses and refill them by returning to the room, which was silly enough that we didn't bother opening the bottle.

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard side room.

We stumbled upon this hotel based on the recommendation of a colleague in nearby Westport. After looking at the photographs online, we went ahead and made reservations -- and are certainly glad we did. The hotel is quite beautiful, has very comfortable and luxurious furnishings and is located in an ideal location. We found the staff to be very helpful. The restaurant was very good (and the bartender poured a solid bourbon and ginger-ale). The Delamar Southport is a far better way to spend a night (or more) away from home than the traditional chain hotels.
