“a haven of hospitality”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014

The Inn at Stonington is a haven of hospitality indeed. With its idyllic location overlooking the
water, its proximity to the newly opened "Swooner" restaurant and foremost, its incredibly welcoming team of "hospitalitarians," this property is a definite must stay.
Susan, Ann, Leslie, Ann and Lindsay at the front desk foster a feeling of well-being from the moment one arrives on property. Moreso, they all have a wonderful ability to bring guests together from the 19 rooms and make a breakfast or afternoon wine-time feel like a salon with one's closest friends. That is truly a gift.
The breakfast offerings are diverse, the rooms impeccably clean and tastefully furnished.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Bravo Team Inn at Swoonington!

Great people, great location, great view, clean, nice, good taste. What else would anyone need for a relaxing break. The inn was so nice that even the bad weather couldn't spoil our long weekend. Will definitely plan to go back.

Superb B & B. Owners could not be nicer. We came here for our 10th anniversary because we wanted something "relaxed" and "comfy." They more than met our expectations.

The place is hospital clean and exceptionally well maintained. The wine and cheese at 6p was a a nice treat and the continental breakfast had FRESH baked goods and fruit. Nothing here came out of a box shipped in from anywhere.

The view from our room (#3) facing the water was great. All the nice finishing touches and really did feel like, "home." In the morning I got to sit out on our little balcony and drink coffee while looking at the sunrise. Refresh my recollection on what could be better than that?

We would have loved to stay a second night but it just wasn't in the schedule.

You should if you can.

We'll be back in the fall. Trust me.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a water view.

We did a brief, one night getaway at this inn. The main building, although fairly new, was built to blend in with the charming old homes in the village. We stayed in the Annex, an attractive brick building steps away. Our room was spacious with two comfortable chairs and a writing desk, and all the usual amenities one expects at an upscale inn. A really nice touch is the afternoon wine and cheese hour on the lovely outside deck. Breakfast the next morning was very much to my liking; although considered a "continental" breakfast, it was definitely a step up with excellent coffee, orange juice, yogurt, fruit and fabulous breakfast breads (as well as the usual cereal, plus hard boiled eggs). It is walking distance from the historic Lighthouse and a small public beach. It is worth mentioning, however, that there is a $5 fee per adult ($10 per family) for the beach....although you can park for free and sit on a comfortable bench and enjoy the water view. Also, the lighthouse is not open daily, so check ahead if interested. All in all, a lovely stay.

Room Tip: We did not have a balcony or a water view, but this really wasn't an issue since there are publi...

Thanks so much for the very nice review! I'm afraid we must have neglected to tell you that all guests of the Inn at Stonington are allowed to use the beach at no cost. We owe you!

We do enjoy coming back here. Everyone is friendly, our room was quiet and lovely, and the cheese/wine and breakfast most welcome. We really should stay longer. This extra sentence to reach the minimum :-)

Stayed past 2 nights. The bed was comfortable, although the room was a bit small. Nicely decorated, custom window treatments. Queen bed, night stands, love seat with one small lamp table. No desk or area to sit and write or eat. Huge clean bath, generic tile and fixtures, jacuzzi. Other areas did not do as well with cleanliness. There were a few spots on the room carpet and a large red wine stain on the in-room sofa. I tried turning the cushions and found that had already been done, as there was a large yellow stain on the other side as well. The hall carpets are absolutely filthy. I am really surprised at all the 5 star marks for cleanliness, but maybe some people aren't concerned with the halls. This was my first impression as we made our way to our room and it wasn't a good one. The staff go out of their way to be accommodating, and walked us to the room, where they welcomed us with coffee and prosecco. I enjoyed the continental breakfast, it was certainly hearty enough to last until lunch. And the wine and cheese in the evening was good and plentiful. The harbor views are a bit far away, but all in all, the Inn is a relaxing place. Not five star, but I would definitely return. However, they really need to replace the hall carpeting and make sure the bedroom carpeting is spot cleaned. And there is no excuse to have a couch stained with red wine, especially in an Inn that purports itself to be upscale.

We enjoyed the town immensely, very walkable with several nice shops, some of which were very affordable. The beach is a five minute walk, small but clean with calm bay waters. Also enjoyed the restaurants we tried. We hope to return to the area in the fall, but probably would not pay the price to return to the Inn.

Room Tip: I didn't mind the village side room we had on the second floor, because bay views are easily acc...

Thank you for your review. We're sorry you found issues with the Inn's cleanliness. That is a rare complaint. I assure you that our carpets and upholstery are spot and machine cleaned regularly but there are times when a stain(s) has us beat and there's nothing to do but replace the item. Such is the case with the upstairs hallway carpeting! We will be replacing all the hallway carpets in the fall.

We stayed here Sat and Sun night in a king bed room on the second floor with a view of the harbor. The room had a small balcony which afforded great views of the sunset. The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom had a jacuzzi tub and shower. (I
especially liked the shower head!) The room rate includes continental breakfast with seating at the bar or porch/living room area. The food selections included yogurt, assorted pastries, bagels, fruit/nut breads, hard boiled eggs, delicious fresh fruits, cheese, etc. The room rate also included wine and cheese in the evening. this inn is in a great location and tastefully decorated. We found the personnel to be very friendly and helpful.
