The inn at Stonington was the perfect choice to celebrate my birthday with my husband. They allowed us to stay for only one night, and we got the room we wanted! The room was spotless clean, and the fireplace and whirlpool tub were a very nice addition to our stay. The bed was very comfortable, and the temperature in the room perfect.
I was initially disappointed with the view, as I was under the impression that I would see only water from my room, yet we saw a parking lot with the water in the distance. Overall, it did not take away from the enjoyment though!
The staff was very nice and we enjoyed the wine and cheese in the evening, as well as the breakfast the next morning. The village of Stonington is charming New England at it's best. Highly recommend it!

My wife and I found the Inn at Stonington during a college hunting trip for our daughter in 2005. One visit and we were hooked! We've been regular visitors since - 4 to 5 times/year - traveling up to 1500 miles each way to get there.

Location, location, location. The views from the seaside rooms are spectacular. The borough is quiet, even in high season, and there are a sufficient number and variety of restaurants and shops that one need only park the car at the Inn and leave the balance of your travel to brief walks. If you must travel oustide of the borough, the local vineyards, RI and CT beaches, Old Mystic and many other attractions are only 15-30 minutes away.

Bill Griffin (Owner) and his staff oversee this charming, elegant and inviting refuge. Wine and cheese in the evening and the freshly made sweet breads for breakfast in the morning! I can smell them as I write these words....

The staff are warm and welcoming. Guests are ALWAYS greeted with a smile and itt appears that there is nothing that they are incapable of arranging - one only has to ask.

If I sound a bit prejudiced toward the Inn at Stonington, then so be it. The Inn has become our favorite place to stay, in all seasons, whenever we feel the need to get away.

We had the opportunity to stay once again at the Inn at Stonington. We are very well traveled and have to admit that the Inn offers everything we look for while visiting in any city. First of all, if you are looking for a place to stay that caters to all of your senses in a very positive way, look no further. The Inn is kept in immaculate condition, we stayed again in Room #3 and enjoyed the room and view of the harbor! The common areas are a great place to talk over your travel plans with the very accommodating staff and other guests who you meet at breakfast, afternoon wine/cheese or any other time. Speaking of the staff; Sue, Lesley, Anne and Heidi made our stay enjoyable by offering suggestions on nearby attractions and restaurants. Example: We visited Watch Hill, RI for the first time and enjoyed the Ocean Hotel and Olympia Restaurant. You will feel very comfortable staying at the Inn at Stonington and we hope to visit many more times in the future. Oh, don't forget to visit the Harbor View Room on the top floor and to use the computer/printer if you need to print a boarding pass or access your email. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this property. Regards, Wade

My husband and I were able to cobble together 4 nights with our two very busy 20-somethings and chose to stay here for a summer vacation, hoping to do the beach and sights in the area. We loved everything about this inn! It is quintessential Connecticut, beautiful, elegant but incredibly comfortable. The common areas (breakfast room, gathering room, bar, upstairs harborview room) are pristine and inviting. There is also a computer room and exercise room---free for all to use. Our rooms (we were in the main building, our kids were in the annex) were large, well appointed with the best beds and pillows we had in any hotel anywhere in a very long time. Each room had a really comfortable couch and chair, as well as fireplace. The bathroom had a separate, very large walk-in shower and jacuzzi tub with tumbled marble floors. A nice touch were the dispensers in the shower for shampoo and conditioner to reduce plastic waste. Towels were plush, clean and soft, as were the beach towels we borrowed for the day. We were on the first floor and had no hallway or restaurant traffic noise whatsoever. Slept like babies. Breakfast, for an inn, was superb. We had very good coffee, homemade breads, granola, corn flakes, raisin bran, yogurts, hard-boiled eggs, fruit salad and buns or bread for toasting---- we could want for nothing more--- also the NY Times and Wall St. Journal for guests to share. The staff were so helpful and accommodating, answering a ton of questions and making all kinds of recommendations, such as where to eat in Stonington (all the restaurants are good!!) where to park for Watch Hill beaches and where to lunch in Newport after a mansion tour. We felt like we were being treated like members of the family--- they just couldn't do enough. Our weather was pretty terrible but we had the greatest time---- Newport is 1-easy hour away with all the mansions, art galleries and restaurants we could want --- Watch Hill is 20-minutes and so we did one beach day when the sun came out--- and Stonington itself has a very small but sweet harbor beach and a dozen high-quality shops and charming streets to get lost in. Mystic is 10-minutes away. We will definitely go back!! We feel like we found our "special place"---- the kind of place you'd like to keep secret so that it stays nice and available but this place is TOO NICE---- we just had to share it with you all.

My husband stays here frequently for work, and this time I was with him. We were in an annexe room and it was very comfortable – large, nicely furnished, great bathroom with large whirlpool bath and huge separate shower. Breakfast was great – good coffee, excellent bakes and breads (the carrot muffins were particularly delicious), and the coffee was available all day. The hotel's people are incredibly friendly and couldn't have been more welcoming. Free, fast WiFi internet was a bonus! Looking forward to visiting again sometime.

The Inn is in a fabulous location. The service is excellent - thanks to Sue and Lesley!
The restaurants are yummy. The only thing I would change is the creaky bed and the overly soft pillows - keep in mind this is a personal preference only and you may love the soft pillows.

My husband and I spent two wonderful nights here at the beginning of August. Based on the reviews on this site we booked room 7 and we could not have been happier. We were a little concerned on checking in to see that the room overlooked a busy parking lot (and then the ocean) but the restaurant behind the hotel closes fairly early and we were not disturbed by noise. The staff were helpful and we enjoyed both the breakfast and the happy hour. We also loved walking around town and looking at the beautifully restored homes. A very relaxing break. We would definitely come back
