“Pure comfort in a period setting”

While working in Wallingford, I spent three nights at High Meadow. I plan to return every time I'm in town. The owners have gently renovated this historic house, while introducing everything necessary for visitors' comfort. The very private Master Suite had a bed more comfortable than my own at home, a well-equipped bathroom, high-quality linens, and an interesting and tasteful mix of comfortable upholstered furniture, antiques, and art collected by the owners. Breakfast was perfectly cooked and delicious. Country quiet just minutes from the town center made High Meadow a perfect location.

My husband and I spent 1 night at this B&B and both of us loved it. From the beautiful location, to the quaint colonial house, to the comfy bed, to the delicious breakfast - everything was wonderful. The hosts were very sweet, we thoroughly enjoyed chatting with the owners! We went to a concert at the Oakdale Theater and wanted to find a place to stay overnight - so we wouldn't have to travel back to WMass late at night. High Meadow was perfect. We will definitely be back. Stay was so much nicer than if we had booked a hotel chain. We stayed in the Master Suite but hope to try the Thai suite some time in the future.

We went to HM for my birthday and experienced a piece of heaven in the middle of the crisp New England fall. The Thai Suite feels like you're in SE Asia, but with winter quilts and a jacuzzi in the bathroom. It is the most gorgeous and unusual experience I have had yet at a B&B. The suite also has its own separate entrance for maximum privacy and romance. Bob and Nancy serve a splendid morning breakfast with all local ingredients and were eager to entertain and even lent us their massive poodle to accompany our romp on the grounds. A vineyard is just down the street. If you're looking for a place to unwind, hear your own thoughts and snuggle down with your partner, this is it!

We have never stayed in a B&B due to privacy issues but ended up at High Meadow after reading the reviews (all the hotels were booked in the area!). It feels like the house itself is welcoming you into it's arms. We felt right at home. The Master Suite was our room and I could have easily stayed there all day reading and relaxing. It seems like when the Inn was moved it was rebuilt with modern plumbing and electric behind its walls! A huge plus for us that enjoy being surround by history but want good solid plumbing and electric at our disposal!

We are early birds so I was up at 6am walking the property and checking out the beautiful grounds (flowers, gardens, apple trees). I found a swimming hole complete with a tree swing, a little dock and BBQ area. A perfect place for a summer afternoon. The only sounds were birds and frogs which is quite different than where we are from where you can never get away from noise.

We were there a very short time but will be back soon to enjoy more of this Inn. If you believe in karma this house and the grounds are loaded with peaceful bliss and happy moments where you find yourself smiling for no reason at all.

The beautiful countryside at High Meadow Bed and Breakfast on the outskirts of Wallingford, CT is breathtaking. The cordial greeting you are given by Bob and Nancy will make you feel right at home. Look in any direction from this high on the hill inn and enjoy Mother Nature at her best, rolling farm fields, forests and ponds. You'll enjoy walking around the property.

The history of the Inn goes back to when it was a tavern in the 1700's and how it was dismantled and reconstructed on this former dairy farm site. The décor exudes old with large plank floors, antique hardware and very thin interior doors. The arrangement of fireplaces is another unique feature.

You'll soon feel a part of this home's history. We stayed in the nicely appointed Blue Room on the second floor with windows overlooking the beautiful adjoining fields. It is spacious enough, but cozy. We had no trouble settling into the very comfortable 4-poster bed. The adjoining bathroom is unique in its length and complete with separate areas for the vanity/sink, shower stall, bathtub and commode. An awesome skylight is situated over the tub.

The larger Master Suite is across the hall from the Blue Room. The Thai Suite is on the lowest level of the house with a separate entrance. The Brae Cottage a recent addition, is found a little ways down the driveway for those desiring even more privacy.

A made from scratch, very filling breakfast is served in their lovely dining room. After an enjoyable conversation with Nancy or Bob during your delicious breakfast, you'll leave the table well fed, mentally as well as physically.

If you're new to staying at bed and breakfasts, this one will set the standard. But if you're an experienced bed and breakfast guest, you'll add this one to your "Best in Category." I recommend you reserve your room via the telephone to be sure you choose the one that most suits your needs.

My 2 friends and I stayed at the B&B one night. Two of us were in the Thai suite, and one in the blue room. Both rooms were decorated nicely. I especially loved the super wide planked flooring. Breakfast was at a pretty laid table and consisted of individually baked french toasts, bacon, melon, fresh juice and coffee.

The location to the vineyard across the street couldn't be better. The vineyard lets you bring in your food to picnic either inside or out, buy wine, and listen to the live music provided. You can easily walk back to the B&B. The views around both properties were very pretty, especially as we were there when the trees were turning colors.

Yale University is a short drive away, and tours of the campus were interesting.
