We are so impressed by the consistently high quality service, location, food and childrens activities that we come back here time and time again. This latest trip was our second visit this year and despite fabulous holidays in France and the UK across the Summer, this was the one our 4 children were most excited about, and it lived up to their expectations. The pool is fantastic - view to die for - even if it is raining outside. This time around our older boys went fishing on the hotel riverbank with rods provided, followed by tennis and horseriding, while the younger ones were in summer camp doing painting and crafts. Happy children, happy parents! Although enough to keep us very happy too, the food was amazing, especially the chocolate souffle. Can't wait for next time we are visiting.

Room Tip: gap-facing rooms have the best balcony view

One of Ireland's best hotels and grounds for couples or families or special gatherings. Breathtaking views, places to walk, ride horses, swim, for children to play, play golf, or just enjoy relaxing quiet and elegant dining with spectacular views and excellent service. Some of the friendliest and most polite staff I have met anywhere.
Rack of Lamb for dinner was excellent and another night their burger was just as good.
We only had two nights there as we were on tour but I would definitely go back again.
They also have a beautiful pool room.

Room Tip: I did not visit various rooms but ours was quiet and had a lovely balcony with a view of the horses...

We had a really great stay with two kids 5 and 6 who could quite happily never have left the hotel and grounds for the whole 3 days.
The grounds are beautifully kept with cows and horses in the fields and stunning views of the Gap and surrounding countryside from the majority of rooms.
There was plenty for kids to do including the excellent playground, pony rides, lovely swimming pool and great art room in the kids club.
We had mixed impressions of the food - breakfast was fantastic and more than enough choice in the lovely surroundings of the 'fine-dining' restaurant.
We didn't try the hotel for lunch as we were out and about but had dinner in the more casual restaurant twice. The kids were very happy with their food on both occasions but I would have liked a better choice on the adult menu. There wasn't a lot in terms of healthy options - salads were fairly unimaginative and covered in heavy dressing - the menu could definitely do with a few simpler, wholesome choices.
The staff in the restaurant and throughout the hotel were great - pleasant, friendly, helpful especially the girls in the kids club and stables who were perfectly suited to looking after kids.
Our family room was just perfect for us. We sometimes go for interconnecting rooms but there is really no need here the room is perfect for a family with a proper single bed for each child. The 'double' bed we had was 2 single mattresses pushed together which we aren't mad about but beds were very comfortable and the room was dark and quiet which made for great nights sleeps all round.
I would definitely return to this hotel again because the kids loved it so much. I'd love to see a bit of an update of the decor in the main common areas of the hotel - it's perfectly clean but very dated patterns on curtains and carpets etc. Considering the fab location, grounds, building, etc it wouldn't take much of an interior re-think to make the hotel something really special.

Having visited most, if not all, of the hotels in Killarney and surrounding area we finally decided to host our wedding at The Dunloe.

Our first visit was during the off season and the hotel was closed so it was difficult to get a feel of the grandeur The Dunloe offered. Having said that The Dunloe closed easily surpassed every other open hotel we had viewed and we knew it was the place for us.

The General Manager Jason went through all our wedding queries and options in great detail and was a fountain of knowledge. From the first meeting right up until the wedding day Jason was in constant contact with us, answered any questions within hours and sent updated detailed plans of the day without us having to chase him.

Jason also supplied us with a huge list of his recommended suppliers from which we chose the photographer, florist, bakery, hairdresser, make up artist and band. They were all fantastic and went well beyond the call of duty to make sure the day was absolutely amazing.

It was good to return to the hotel and see it had come to life since our visit during the off season. The grounds were magnificent and pristine with horses and their fowls playing in the nearby pastures. The Gap of Dunloe was now clearly visible from the dining room and provided the amazing view during meals and drinks.

The staff were outgoing and genuinely friendly and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable.

The hotel was spotless and I have never been to a hotel where you can't go five minutes without seeing someone inconspicuously vacuuming, dusting or polishing something.

We were initially worried that the hotel was dog friendly - firstly we didn't see any dogs and secondly any trace of dog wouldn't have been quickly despatched by The Dunloe's cleaners.

Buffet breakfast was amazing with a huge selection of fresh fruit, juices, pastries and full Irish breakfast on offer. We enjoyed a lunch in the restaurant and the portions were very generous and the food very tasty.

Jason had a pressing family engagement on the weekend of the wedding so left us in the very capable hands of the assistant GM Lisa. Any nerves we had about the big day soon dissipated as it was clearly evident Lisa really knew her stuff.

The day went off perfectly and this can be largely be attributed to Jason, Lisa and their staff.

The wedding breakfast was amazing with just about every guest commenting on how good the food was - with special mention of seafood salad, lamb, black cod and the selection of desserts.

We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending The Dunloe for a visit and in particular for a fairy tale wedding.

Room Tip: The Honeymoon Suite is amazing and worth splashing out on.

We stayed for 3 nights in August having attended a friends wedding in the hotel. Breakfast every morning in the dining room was a pleasure with most beautiful views over countryside and Gap of Dunloe. The wide selection in the breakfast buffet was excellent. We had dinner on one evening in the more casual dining restaurant and I have to say on balance, it was not what i would expect from a 5 star hotel. Menu was dated, service average and the cheesecake i had for dessert very poor. My waitress asked 'was it the worst i ever had?' when i drew her attention to my disappointment with it. I thought she was joking!
Be sure to check out the facilities at sister hotel, Europe, just up the road, the outdoor tranqulity pool & spa cafe were excellent.
