“A slice of heaven”
Reviewed 23 October 2013

A slice of heaven-Nestled amongst pristine panoramic view of the hills, streams and tall dark trees, acres of lush green grass, wandering stallions munching sedately at the grass, the Dunloe whisks you away to a whole new era. The hotel rooms are beautiful, and the view from the balcony as the myst comes down the hazy hills makes one think that one can pen poetry. It was a one night stay, would definitely recommend staying here. Dinner and breakfast was really good and the service impeccable. Highly recommended :)

Room Tip: Rooms with Balcony have great views.

My husband and i got married here on the 30 th august 2013 , from start to finish our day was flawless . We had our civil ceremony here in the maple room , with views that would take your breath away . Elisabeth looked after our day in every way possible , she went above and beyond for us . I would highly recommend anyone planning a wedding to consider the Dunloe highly . The setting , the staff , the location are none I have ever experienced before . We look forward to returning for our anniversary next year

We spent 3 nights at The Dunloe as part of a travel package and were delighted that the company had booked this hotel. Our "room" was actually a suite, which was spacious, comfortable, beautifully appointed. In addition, the grounds are spectacular, including pastures, woods, a lake, the ruins of a castle, and a lovely walking trail. We also had a number of meals there, and all of them were delicious. The staff was invariably cheerful, efficient, and eager to please. We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good hotel in the Killarney area.
Our only reservation was the fact that the hotel is located 5 miles from Killarney, meaning that walking around the city itself was difficult, although a hotel shuttle is available twice a day.

The Dunloe was a delightful surprise. Our bus tour had been scheduled to stay in the city, but some circumstance caused us to need an alternate. The Dunloe is very luxurious and comfortable, with lovely, fascinating grounds. We stayed here 2 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. This was the best night's sleep ever!

We recently had our wedding at the Dunloe and stayed there for the 3 nights, what an amazing hotel it really lives up to its 5 star rating and more, fantastic service, excellent food, everyone who works there is so friendly and helpful we had the dream wedding and couldn't recommend it more highly, nothing was too much trouble and as we live in sweden we organised the whole thing over the phone and by email with the manager Jason, a big thank you to everyone at the Dunloe for an unforgettable weekend

My Husband and I got married in The Dunloe on the 1st August 2013. Like many young Irish we now live in Australia. We organised everything with the manager Jason over the phone or by email. I arrived home a few weeks prior to the wedding. I must admit I was a little nervous but I need not have been. From the moment we made our booking Jason and the team went above and beyond. Nothing I asked for was ever a problem.

On the day of our wedding the weather was terrible but Jason was there at the front door with umbrellas and champagne to welcome us. He had helpful suggestions for photograph locations and had a mini bus on standby to transport the bridal party around the grounds. While we were taking our photographs our guests were treated to delicious canapés in luxurious surroundings.

The reception room was beautiful with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. It's been 2 months and my guests are still talking about how good the meal was. I was amazed at how fast everyone was served. The staff were always on hand to offer extra servings of meat or vegetables.

The whole day ran so smoothly. The staff were always there to guide and prompt us like when to enter the room or when to start the speeches. They were all so wonderful and friendly. I can not speak highly enough of the treatment and the services we received at The Dunloe.

Thank you Jason and Staff for giving us the wedding of our dreams.

The Bad, The Ugly and The Good ... In That Order!

It's not often that you can genuinely ascribe the words Bad, Ugly and Good to a single stay in a hotel and still be sure in the conviction that each accurately describes a facet of the visit! That's exactly what happened on my last family trip to the Dunloe Castle Hotel in Killarney.

I made a booking directly with the hotel for a stay of two nights. We were offered interconnecting delux rooms at an attractive package price. As our trip centered on a special occassion I pointed out we would really appreciate if we could have a good view, maybe a room that had been recently refurbished, or anything that would make it a bit special.I was assured that this would be noted and they would be "able to do something". I suppose I should have known better but having been brought up in days of yore when a promise meant something I happily set forth to Killarney filled with anticipation for our treat.

THE BAD : The hotel entrance and grounds complete with some of their handsome Halflinger ponies inspire confidence in the hospitality to come. After booking in at reception we were graciously offered hot towels to refresh ourselves. It seemed we were in good hands. But when a porter accompanied us to our rooms it was a good thing we wanted to stretch our legs after the drive as the walk through gloomy corridors was long and involved many twists, turns and level changes. Although it was early afternoon I noticed that many room doors still had trays overflowing with food and drinks outside on the floor. There was a general air of untidyness that belied the composure of the reception area. Our rooms turned out to be located on the basement level and the only view was of a sliver of lawn and the main wing whose lucky occupants could gaze admiringly on the splendour of the famous Gap of Dunloe. The decor was dated and dull, the balcony was dirty and a faint but yet familiar scent permeated the air. My wife later sarcastically termed it "Shake'N Vac"! Our bed was tired and lumpy and in the adjoining room things were no better. One of the beds there was like a prop from a comedy movie with a spring that bulged up until you put your weight on it whereupon it would pop up elsewhere! My expectations of a luxury break were quickly evaporating.

THE UGLY : Thinking that a little food would help we repaired to one of the restaurants. On a previous visit we had been delighted with a magnificent platter of roast beef sandwiches and horseradish sauce. Wanting to recreate the experience we ordered the same again along with a selection of sandwiches. After a long delay a plate of small and thin white squares was placed in front of us. Incredulously we examined what seemed to be the lowest quality family white pan economically filled with thin slices of cheap ham & beef. It was the kind of thing you would dish up to a room full of 10 year olds attending a birthday party and sugared up to the nines on chocolate and sweet drinks. But in a four or five star hotel?? It was the last straw. I did what I seldom want to do. I complained.

The Good : The duty manager having heard me out was genuine in response. Without hesitation arrangements were made to relocate us to an upgraded room, this time not only with the finest view possible but also complete with numerous luxury touches. While the original offering undoubtedly fell well short of the mark it is only fair to acknowledge that management when made aware of it really did pull out the stops to rectify the situation. Thanks to that response we were able to fully enjoy our stay. Perhaps that attention is the real hallmark of a quality hotel. Our remaining time was delightful and the ratings given reflect this part of our stay. The staff were most friendly and helpful. The hotel bar in the evening with many tourists and coach parties is a relaxed and convivial place. The locality is peaceful and lush and of course the views!. Despite the initial disappointment we would be more than happy to return.
