“Best Tasting Pizza in Hartford County”
Reviewed 7 January 2009

Best pizza in CT. The owners work hard to provide an outstanding product. If you're looking for excellent food, Village is your place. If you're looking for an outstanding dining experience, Village is NOT your place. Small, crowded, noisy with a continual draft from the outside. This place should have a nicer building and it would probably do 5 times the business it presently does. The food is worth it to us. We are loyal Village Pizza Fans and eat in and take out. Everything they serve is fresh and tasty.
One of the owners is always on board and that's what makes them so successful.

“We LOVE this pizza!!!!”
Reviewed 17 July 2008

We made a wrong turn on a trip from New Jersey to Maine, and found ourselves driving through Old Wethersfield searching for fast food. When we stopped for a light we noticed the PIZZA sign on the building across from us, and decided it was worth a stop. Oh, I am so glad we did.

When we parked the car we found ourselves right in front of what were obviously historic homes immediately adjacent to the stores housing the pizzeria. It was only upon reading the "landmark" signs that we realized just how historic the homes were. We were smack dab in front of the Silas Deane and Joseph Webb homes, where George Washington met with General Rochambeau to plan the Battle of Yorktown. Right there, by Village Pizza!

So we entered the restaurant. The friendly staff was very attentive from the moment we arrived. That's an immediate plus. They told us to sit wherever we'd like, so we chose a table in front of the large windows facing a charming village center. The menu was impressively varied with pizza choices, salads, and so forth. There was truly something for everyone. We ordered a half cheese and half sausage and mushroom pizza. Minutes later it arrived. And we arrived in pizza paradise.

The pizza was wonderful. Very tasty crust, which was surprising. Ordinarily crust is merely utilitarian, a platform for the sauce and cheese. Not this time. It had a toasted flavor that made me crave more. Our daughter, who never, ever eats the crust, ate every bite of hers. First time in her life. The crust was thick enough that it retains its form when holding it, but not deep dish, so it was perfectly acceptable to pick it up. Half of us chose to do this, while half used a knife and fork. Imagine, a pizza that can unite us all ... !

The sauce was equally flavorful without being salty or acidic. The sausage was crumbled and tasty, not greasy, and just enough spice to give it a good zing. The mushrooms were fresh. FRESH!! I can't recall all the times I've ordered mushrooms on pizza and received what seemed to be a canned rubber product. These were fresh!

This was unquestionably the BEST pizza I have had in at least twenty years. Being from New York, that's saying something.

On our trip back from Maine, we deliberately planned a return trip to Old Wethersfield and Village Pizza. Our second visit was as wonderful as the first.

So if you're in the Hartford area and happen to navigate in the direction of Old Wethersfield, do yourself a favor and visit Village Pizza. You'll be glad you did.

Oh, and did I mention that the mushrooms were fresh? :-)

“lots of locals”
Reviewed 2 March 2007

We detour on trips through Connecticut to have lunch here. The menu is a mixture of Greek, Italian, and sandwiches. Service is fast and cheerful, and everything is tasty and fresh. It's popular with locals of all sorts and can get busy at mealtimes -- always a good sign in a restaurant.

If you're going to go, don't go when it's busy...and get pizza or salad.
