My husband and I recently stayed one night with Mary Beth and Tony while traveling through NE. I wish I had the room to say all the great things I would like to say about this place. The house was built in 1714 with an addition added in the 1800's. It is a gem. Hugh fireplaces, a great sitting area, a wonderful trail to walk. Mary Beth served us a delicious breakfast before we left and I feel lucky that we hit it just right to be the only guest the night before...we got to have the place to ourselves. Mary Beth made us dinner reservations at a local inn and it was wonderful. This was one of the best places we stayed on our 6 night trip. Don't miss it!

About 9 years ago I started searching on line for a bed & breakast within 3 hours of our home. After searching on line I found the Elias Child House. It's become our home away from home. We've worked our way up to at least three times a year. Elias Child House is a warm welcoming place. The owners, Mary Beth & Tony along with their new puppy, Nell, do their best to make you feel right at home. Breakfasts are made to order. Every morning Mary Beth serves a home baked bread and jellies. On our last stay we had blueberry lemon bread & rose geranium jelly. Yum! If you go in the summer, there's a beautiful pool. Elias Child House is dog friendly & our dog, Buddy, just loves it there. He's right at home. He & Nell have become great friends.

The owners have become good friends of ours and we look forward to our next visit. You won't be disappointed.

My partner and I just returned from a wonderful weekend at the Elias Child house. We arrived earlier than expected but received a warm greeting by "Chester" one of our host's 3 cats. Tony and Mary Beth soon followed and after your first meeting you felt they were like old friends. They literally opened their house to you and welcome you as "family". From the spacious rooms, the lovely home and grounds, and the wonderful meals, you will be pressed to find a better deal for the money or with such wonderful hosts. If your not familiar with this part of CT it is only a short ride to Pomfret, Putnam, Sturbridge and Southbridge Massachusetts and a short drive to UCONN.

A wonderful Colonial-era house with fascinating features of long ago that also offers its guests modern comforts and thoughtful touches--not to mention attentive, considerate, and well-informed hosts; great food; and a peaceful setting. Unlike many B&B's, MaryBeth and Tony's inn has rooms that can accommodate more than 2 people, and it also welcomes children (ours were not with us, but we [almost!] wished they were to play with the cats and Murphy the dog, explore the nearby woods, or, if it had been summer, swim in the pool). We'd love to visit again someday.

We stayed at this fascinating bed and breakfast on New Year's Eve. We strolled the grounds, which are extensive, and then had our dinner inside. Everything we needed was provided. We felt completely at home. The innkeepers built a fire for us in the room with the TV and we spent a cozy evening watching the year fade into 2010. We had no triouble with Internet or cell phones in the TV room. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, complete with a fluffy duvet.

Breakfast was scrumptious, a real feast and all homemade, with fruit preserves and maple syrup made right in Woodstock. We were wistful about saying good-bye and will go back again at the first opportunity.

We spent one night at Elias Child House and were made to feel immediately like family. The house is old and charming, the room was comfortable and our hosts, Mary Beth and Tony were friendly and went out of their way to help us. Even Murphy the "guard" dog added to the charm. The breakfast was delicious and Mary Beth's homemade bread and jellies were superb. We will definitely return if we go through that area in the future.

We needed a couple of rooms for a stay in CT with my boys 10, 13 and 15 while visiting some friends in Woodstock. The owners were very accomodating and weren't afraid to have children. That was welcoming. We just stayed the night and came in late which wasn't a problem. We had a wonderful breakfast in the morning. The rooms were decorated in the style of old new England and reminded me of my grandmothers house with all the old spinning wheels and unique (to us) gadgets of the time. The grounds were nice and if we had time we would have dipped in the pool, but it was a short stay. Short but sweet.
