“Beautiful lodge, beautiful location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

We stayed in the Vendeen Lodge for our mini-moon at the end of June. The lodge is impeccable, very large and cosy with most things you could need. Vendeen is the last lodge situated on the site and therefore perhaps offers most privacy, we felt very detached from it all which was exactly what we had hoped for. The hot tub is superb and is permanently heated meaning you can jump straight in on arrival. Phone signal is very limited around the site, with o2 being the worst. We found if we walked to the site entrance we were able to get some signal here. (Although it was lovely to be able to switch off from the outside world, with no landline on site some signal was needed to let loved ones know we had arrived safely and to call for taxis etc). Lovely little personal touches, such as tea/coffee/milk on arrival and a Sticky Toffee Pudding in the fridge (all plans to take this home as a souvenir went out the window). Also a visit from the owner to check that everything was ok the day after our arrival was a nice touch.

Cartmel is a very picturesque village located about a 15 minute walk down the road. If walking, there is only one route, the windy road with no paths you drive down to get to Meadow's End. The walk was really pleasant and offered some amazing views of rolling hills, but just be mindful to wear good footwear! We also took a taxi into Cartmel one evening, this cost less than £10 return and taxi numbers were provided in the information booklet in the lodge (it is worth booking in advance if needed for a specific time).

We also drove to Lakeside, which was about 8 miles by car and very easy to navigate to. It is perhaps the less busy part of Lake Windemere and offers stunning views of the Lake. There is a regular boat service to Bowness on Windermere, which offers more of a tourist attraction and is more populated. The Boat trip took 40 minutes and made for a very lovely day out.

Grange-Over-Sands is also very picturesque and is about 3 miles by car in the other direction to Cartmel. This offers more conventional amenities, such as a local spa shop and several take aways (and better phone signal!)

We absolutely loved our stay at Meadow's End Lodges, it really was perfect. The lodge was stunning and the surroundings so peaceful. We would happily return and highly recommend!

Stayed in the Boreray lodge (semi detached, 2 persons). Delightful tranquil location (15 mins walk to the wonderful Cartmel village), well furnished and all you need and more for a short break. Relaxing hot tub on private patio area. Can't wait to go back. Just 30 mins drive from Bowness on Windermere. Highlyrecommend. Will be back soon.

We stayed in the Masham lodge, which was detached, some lodges on site were semi detached. Very high standard furniture and fittings recliner chairs, really clean, welcome pack on arrival of tea, coffee, milk, kendal mint cake and the lovely sticky toffee pudding. Fantastic hot tub, used every nite, even in the rain with clever use of the parasol! Once in the tub you couldnt really be seen by neighbours as others state, they would really have to be peering through the fence.
Only one bad comment is that the knives are very blunt, take your own if your having fresh cut bread or veg.
Only ten minute walk into the lovely little village of Cartmel. Nice coffee in Cartmel coffee shop. Try the Kings Arms pub for the supper club after 5pm where you get 2 starters and 2 mains for £20.
Not very clearly sign posted from the main road. you will see a sign for The Pastures, residential lodges for sale,on a bend, follow this sign and you will turn into the pastures and Meadows End lodges are on the left.
A nice walk into Grange on the sands, come out of the Pastures to main road, turn right and follow the road till you come to the Yakkers pub in Aithewaite, keep left and follow the footpath which brings you to Grange. Keep straight on the road past a large pink home till you come to a Medical centre on the right, 50 yards on and you will see a bridge on the right over the railway. This bring you to the promenade which is a lovely walk to the small town centre. There is a lovely coffee shop just over the bridge. It took us just over an hour to walk there.

Room Tip: Go for the detached lodges if you want more privacy and larger accommodation.

really first class service when booking this holiday, from day one we were given precise instruction on how to get there and what to do when we arrived. This was backed up by a friendly text on the morning of arrival to verify the instructions, all of which were easily followed.
On arrival the lodge was very clean and very cosy, and complimentary milk, Kendal mint cake and renowned sticky toffee pudding were left in the lodge for us...(nice one).
lots and lots to do in the south lakes, and as we had never been racing their before, we decided to go to Cartmel races, which was a ten minute walk down the lane.
this lodge is in a quiet location and really private, I would recommend this lodge to anybody, one of the best I have been in. thank you.

We have stayed in several lodges like this and, whilst these lodges were lovely and we had a really enjoyable stay, there were a few things that could have made them even better.

Good points:
1. Vendeen lodge is located at the back of the site and therefore seems to offer the most privacy.
2. Very clean with modern furnishings - we felt very comfortable here.
3. The recliner sofa was amazing!
4. Great value for money.
5. Nice location.
6. Lots of wildlife.
7. Great base for visiting local tourist attractions (e.g. Lake Windemere, South Lakes Zoo, Lakeland Wildlife Oasis)

Bad points:
1. The hot tub was not screened off for privacy - we could clearly see into several other lodge's hot tubs from ours, and they could probably see into ours. All the other lodges we've stayed in have had completely private hot tubs and this would be easy to address.
2. There were two bathrooms but no bath - only shower units. On a break of this nature it would have been nice to have the option of relaxing in the bath.
3. There were two bedrooms in the lodge, but the smaller one was the master bedroom, whereas the spare bedroom was huge with a huge bathroom - not sure why they were done this way.
4. There were not many homely finishing touches, e.g. there was a big vase but it had no flowers in it, there was no clock on the wall, the walls were generally quite sparse etc...

Don't want to be too negative though, it really was a nice lodge, we had a lovely stay and it was excellent for the price, we just feel that these suggestions would change a great lodge into an outstanding one.

Room Tip: Vendeen Lodge is at the back of the site and therefore offers a bit more privacy - all the other lod...

Fantastic lodge! We enjoyed a fabulous stay at the lodge. Facilities were excellent, hot tub was very relaxing. Little girl, aged 5, enjoyed watching the wildlife, that included 4 deer and a variety of birds. Both bedrooms were very comfortable, with en-suite facilities. Overall, a very relaxing and enjoyable stay and we would thoroughly recommend it!

Stayed in the Radnor lodge for a long weekend with family of 4. The lodge itself was clean, beautifully furnished and was equipped with everything you would need for a trip away.
The hot tubs are amazing, I literally could not get my youngest out it.
Lodges well located for an easy walk into Cartmel or drive over to Grange for somewhere to eat.
Only thing which bothered me was I couldn't get the windows open, they are all locked, so the steam from the ensuite hung around for ages.
Would highly recommend.
