As parts of my family were born in this region, I felt a strong desire to see Egeln myself. It was not easy to find an accomodation because tourism in the country side of Saxonia Anhalt is underdeveloped. I chose Bauernhof in the Internet, but booking was only possible by phone. This, however, worked quite well. The B&B is situated in an old townhouse which was quite nicely refurbished. Although the window looked to the main road (Breiteweg), there was no disturbing noise at night. At the other side of the complex, there is a disco which did not bother us either. The room was large, clean and comfortable. The breakfast next day was very nice - the main disadvantage was the fact, that the establishment did not give the impression of professionalism, although the houselady was friendly and helpful. The Restaurant was reduced to a beer bar. Parking was in the backyard. It was not far to the main attractions of the town: Wasserburg and the Monastery Marienstuhl.
We were quite satisfied with our stay in the Bauernhof, but in general, Egeln is terribly underdeveloped as far as gastronomy and accomodation is concerned - even if the representatives of Saxonia-Anhalt (the Prime Minister of the County, Mr Haseloff, and the Chairman of the Council, Mr. Gerstner) expressed high expectations with respect to tourism. The town is situated at the Eastern part of the St. James' Way and should do better. But with about 6 rooms in "Bauernhof", some more in the Hotel "Swan" and four very particular ones in the Wasserburg, it will be difficult to achieve this target.
