“Lots of History”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 November 2012

A friend and I stopped at the Cannonball House on a recent trip to Lewes. We were given a nice presentation by one of the docents, Charlie Young. Mr. Young's tales of the history of the house, and Lewes itself, were fascinating. The house contains some interesting items and is definitely worth making a stop to see.

“History you can feel...”

at the Cannonball House in Lewes, De. A knowledgable tour guide, interesting artifacts, and a home that has withstood the passing of centuries. A very worthwhile visit. Just touch the canonball!

“1812 cannonball still stuck in house!”

Get a taste of early American history here. An original cannonball shot by the British is still embedded in the side of this house. Pretty interesting. Nearby signs tell the story and gives a glimpse into our past. Lewes is "the first town in the first state" and there is lots of history here. Check out Ship Carpenter's Square too!

“It's a small cannon ball”

It's much better to think about seeing it than the reality.

“Your reaction will be - thats the cannonball!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2012

This is a must do for everyone who finds themselves walking around in the town of Lewes. It right in by the little mall area. When you see the name of this place "Cannonball House" you kind of get this picture in your mind of this big cannon ball in the side of a building. So when you get there and see it you say....that's the cannonball? Because it is the size of a softball at best and it's in the very bottom by the foundation of this building. It looks like it's been placed there and cemented in, not like it actually was placed there by a cannon. As I said before if you find yourself walking around the town you have to stop by for a good laugh otherwise don't make it a special trip or you will be very dissappointed. I gave it an average rating because of the "funny" factor. It is some pathetic that it makes it okay. lol
