The menu at the Buttery was excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. We had the chicken salad croissant and the quiche of the day, a delicious mixture of Brie, ham, spinach, tomatoes and eggs. We also had the stone fruit tart which was amazing. Our server, Anton, made us feel welcome and provided flawless service.

We had dined frequently at the Buttery since it first opened. We had many fine meals there; the atmosphere was great; the wait staff was always excellent. But about two years ago, we had several less than satisfactory experiences: poor seating, cold food, a surly wait person. After our comments to one of the owners were rebuffed in an extremely defensive and accusatory manner, we decided our Buttery days were done.
Recently, after learning of changes in personnel, including the chef and the wait staff as well as the menu, we decided to give the Buttery another try. Big mistake!
The seafood chowder, which I always had thought was the best anywhere, was still on the menu but it was nothing like I remembered. It was as thick as a stew, lacked the amount of seafood it used to have and was loaded with big chunks of potatoes. It was very bland. My wife chose the house salad which had always been a favorite of hers. It consisted of many yellow leaves and the greens were curled on the ends, an indication that it was refrigerated too long. She said that it had so little dressing that it was impossible to flavor the whole serving. The cheese was in thick strips, not crumbled as it had been previously. She left half of her serving on the plate. A small portion of bread was delivered and it was fresh and warm, but when the waitress came back to refill our water glasses, she removed the bread basket, as if to say ‘that’s all you get.’
The entrées were okay. Is that damning with faint praise? My wife’s chicken dish was a breast [with bone-in] in an undistinguished sauce. My fish selection was ono [also known as wahoo]. Never having had it before, I found it interesting and liked its blackened flavorings. The accompaniments added little to the overall presentation.
Our waitperson did not add to the experience. She was perfunctory, perhaps even curt, doing her job and nothing more.
Dessert was forgettable.
We left; having made the effort to experience a revitalized Buttery only to find it has continued to slide from its glorious past.

We booked a table on a Saturday night. We weren't terribly hungry, had an appetizer and one main course. Food was good and service quick and efficient
