So much nicer than any of the chain hotels in the area and so close to school. We usually stay at the Marriott on campus but it was full and that turned out to be the good news. The house has all the charm on a house originally built in the 1600's, (4 poster bed and beautiful antique furniture) while providing all the comforts of today. Individual AC thermostats, lovely bathroom and very clean. There is a nice back yard with a hammock and gazebo.
To top it off Amy, the owner, makes a wonderful breakfast as a send off complete with homemade granola, fresh fruit and homemade breads. If you like dogs or want to bring dogs it is also pet friendly though you would never know it based on how clean the place is.

We enjoyed our one night stay at the Blue Hen B&B in Newark, Delaware. This beautiful house has a quiet charm and richness that was very welcoming. Everything was clean and fresh. The owner Amy took very good care of us, even calling when we were late to make sure we weren't lost. Breakfast of homemade baked goods and granola and fruit was very nice.

We stayed in the Cassatt room (named for the French impressionist), and slept very well on an excellent bed. This was, we felt, a nice value, since we didn't really have time to enjoy the view of the garden offered by the other, more expensive room. In reality, the garden could use some sprucing up. The grounds around a B&B really mean a lot to me, and this was the one and only fault I could find with the inn. I'm a "constant gardener" by nature, so my criticism is biased.

We would certainly stop again at the Blue Hen. Next time we'll bring our dog! It seems pet-friendly B&Bs are rare.

Room Tip: The Cassatt room suited us just fine, though it seemed to have no locks on the bathroom, which had a...

We were looking for a place for a get-together during Graduation weekend that would be like having a backyard party. This was perfect...the food was great and the grounds are very pretty...the perfect weather that day helped - I am sure Amy ordered that for us!!! We did not stay overnight, but it was a great place for a small party.

My daughter and I wanted a B&B that was close to the University of Delaware that also offered lots of charm and Blue Hen B&B scored a ten on both counts. It is about 5 minutes away from the campus. We stayed only one night, but we felt very comfortable in the Wyeth Room. Although our room faced the street, it was very quiet for sleeping. In the morning, we enjoyed Don's huge, satisfying breakfast. Don and Amy were very welcoming and had plenty of good restaurant suggestions.

If you are missing your dog while you travel, you are in luck, as Don and Amy own two friendly labs who will greet you as if you are a long lost friend.

Spent a night at the Blue Hen B&B on a visit to the University of Delaware with my daughter. It is a wonderful house. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the bed was so comfortable. Amy and Don are a great team. She had delicious cookies for us on our arrival and Don prepared a restaurant quality breakfast for us in the morning. It was five minutes from Main Street and the college, it couldn't have been a better location. We hope to visit again when our daughter enters U Delaware in the fall!
You will not be disappointed!

Just stayed at this lovely B&B for 2 nights. The hosts were flexible, prepared for any questions or problems, and the breakfast was delicious. Cassatt room was very comfortable! The location is quite easy to find and close to all Newark areas.

My wife and I had a wonderful three night stay in the Wyeth room! The room was very clean and the bed was quite comfortable. The innkeepers (Amy and Don) were very hospitable and made us feel right at home as soon as we arrived. They were accommodating with our dietary restrictions. Don prepared a delicious breakfast for us each of the three mornings of our stay. We will definitely consider staying at the Blue Hen B&B again when visiting the area.
