“Look for a crowd and you'll find Amalfi's”

Amalfi Pizza & Italian Eatery

The front desk staff at our hotel near Newark (U of Del) recommended a restaurant to us and we set out to find it. While looking for it in the same strip shopping center, we saw what looked like a crowd going into another small store front. It was Amalfi's. We were glad we followed the crowd and had dinner there instead. The food was true blue Southern Italian, the portions large to enormous, and the service quick and efficient. Prices were very fair too. We enjoyed calamari, Sicilian pizza and a daily special of eggplant rolatini. Only downers: wish they had a license for wine and wish we could have taken our leftovers (we were traveling the next day, so no).

A warm, authentic, casual Italian joint! The NY pizza slices were generous with a good ratio of toppings to crust. A Mediterranean chicken salad was brimming with chunks of grilled chicken, fresh mozzarella, eggplant. roasted red peppers, all atop a bed of crisp salad greens and tomatoes. The place was packed when we got there at 8:30; and the wait staff were still friendly and attentive. You definitely want to check out this place if you are in Newark, DE!

Yes, their pizza is fabulous, but they also do great entrees and salads as well. Their grilled chicken salads are loaded and can feed two people.

My wife and I stopped off at the Suburban Plaza to purchase wine. We were both hungry and saw Amalfi and checked out the reviews. We were apprehensive about having pizza away from NY/NJ, but the reviews were very positive, so we each had one plain slice. It was excellent, better than any pizzeria in our neighborhood! We had a second slice before hitting the road. We will definitely visit on our next trip and probably try a few slices with toppings.

Used to stop in several times a month while travelling off I-95 exit. ( easily reached) At busy times the store is understaffed and orders and people back up at the counter. waitstaff missing at last afternoon stop - you order at the counter and find a table.
