Description: WE ARE OPEN FOR 2017 Just 133 steps to the Atlantic...Blurring the boundary between a night in with friends, and an evening on the town, coastal gastropub cuisine, eclectic wine, handcrafted cocktails, cool beers, laid back livin'. We are locally owned and operated establishment. We start with what we call our kitchens mantra from Julia Child; "You don't have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces, just good food from fresh ingredients." Our interpretation is to not get in the way of the food, let the ingredients speak for themselves. We mix this altogether with a nice selection of handcrafted cocktails (a must these days), craft brews, and wines, throw it all together in a relaxed beach cottage atmosphere, and try our best to provide you with the friendliest service we know how. Outdoor patio dining, There you have it: Shorebreak Lodge.

“Don't skip the cocktails”

We had no reservations and the hostess advised us that a table would be available shortly, but that the kitchen was running at peak (my words, not hers) so it could be a bit of a wait once we were seated. We really appreciated the heads-up, and chose to sit at the bar while we waited. Gotta say, the speciality cocktails are terrific. Mine had beet-infused rum, ginger and lime. Loved it. My husband's drink featured gin and St. Germain. These weren't contrived in the least -- they were really fresh and well-prepared by their excellent bartender. As it turned out, we were happy to stay seated at the bar and enjoyed appetizers and another round. There's been some redecoration, and the upgrade matches the quality of the food and drink. We'll definitely keep returning.

“Needs a Lot More Polish”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

A group of us went to the Shorebreak Lodge for dinner in late May. We'd read some good reviews, and the menu looked interesting, so we were exciting to try the place. Ultimately, we were disappointed. The food was okay, but nothing was outstanding. Most of the portions were pretty small. Oddly, however, I ordered the "yard bird," and ended up with a half a chicken on my plate. (A few fries were buried underneath.) It was completely out of proportion with everyone else's meals.

In thinking about the meal, I believe a couple oddities really ruined the experience. First, the service did not fit the level to which this establishment aspires. While our waitress was very friendly, and responded to questions directly, the answers weren't always helpful or correct. Everything on the menu seemed to be either her favorite or the favorite of most patrons. And, her description of several items on the menu didn't match what was served. I was particularly intrigued when she had to check to see if ice cream would be served with the (chocolate) cake, because their "freezer had been out for a few days." How does a restaurant operate without working freezer for days at a time? Finally, repeated use of the phrase "no problem," became annoying and would fit better in a diner.

Finally, I agree with a few of the other reviews. We were seated in the backroom. As the space filled up, it became incredibility loud back there. By the end of the meal, we were largely silent, because we couldn't hear each other across table. We all bolted for the door once the bill came.

We're in Rehoboth frequently, but will not be going back to the Shorebreak Lodge. I'd recommend trying Amuse, Azafran, Nage, Lupo di Mare, and Salt Air instead.

“Treasure at the Shore”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Been to Shorebreak Lodge twice now and am sure it's destined to become an institution in this town. The food is innovative, delicious, and fresh. Service is friendly and attentive. And the decor is perfect for a beach setting.

“Great Atmosphere and Delicious Food”
Reviewed 21 May 2014

This is one of the rare locations in Rehoboth that take reservations. Consider making them before you leave home, it will be worth it.

There were 6 of us and we were seated in the front room, where it was very clean and the atmosphere was very pleasant. It was too cool for outside seating, so I cannot comment on that.

Each one of us enjoyed our food. The menu changes daily and there seemed to be something for everyone. The local 'tog (fish) was well-received, as was the LaFrieda burger (using Pat LaFrieda meat!) which included pimento cheese and a spicy tomato jam. I loved the burger. The sides of vegetables are a la carte, however, one can be shared by two. We enjoyed even the simpler ones, such as peas and onions and carrots and fennel. The side of mashed potatoes was only average. The smoked trout bruschetta was terrific.

The beer list was nice and the cocktails were well-made (dark and stormy and a grapefruit cocktail were both a hit).

This is not the place to come to straight from the beach. The atmosphere is more like nicer casual; not shorts.
