“Should be raised and new property built!”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

I have stayed in the past and had fun. I also have to admit that I was inebriated most of the time. This stay it was clear that the overall hygiene of the property was very poor. Walking down the hallways to the room, your feet would stick to the rugs...nasty. The boardwalk restaurant attached was about as low-class as it gets. The buffet caused many uncomfortable moments hours after taking part of it.

Room Tip: Don't wast your hard earned mony on this Property.

This reviewer’s inference that one would need to be inebriated to enjoy the Atlantic Sands Hotel is an affront to the many thousands of guests who spend time staying overnight in our hotel and dining in our restaurants each year. Hotel management has no record of this guest raising any issues or concerns during his recent stay nor during, or soon after, his meal at the Atlantic Boardwalk Grille. Many other reviewers report that the hotel staff provides a clean and comfortable environment and safe and enjoyable food for hotel and restaurant guests.

We just got home from a 3 night stay at the Atlantic Sands. We decided on this hotel based on a recommendation from friends. The nightly rate is comparable to other Rehoboth Beach hotels in the height of tourist season. We were willing to pay a bit more for the location and hotel amenities. The hotel is perfectly located right off of the boardwalk and beach, in easy walking distance to lots of great restaurants, shops, and Funland. We took advantage of the beach chairs and umbrellas provided by the hotel. What a great service! Some parts of the hotel seem a bit outdated or in need of repair, but we had no issues in our room. Our room was clean and quiet. We had an ocean-view room with two full-sized beds, which is exactly what I chose when I placed the reservation online. Our room was small, but was good enough for 2 adults and 2 kids for a 3 night stay. The beds were exceptionally comfortable. I slept very well each night, which is unusual for me when I stay in a hotel. The pool was a big hit with my kids. The shallow end is 3 feet deep, which was great for my 4-year-old who could stand while she practiced her swimming strokes. Friendly attendants stopped by each time several times we were at the pool to make sure that there were enough clean towels. Every employee who we talked to was friendly and helpful, which stood out to me. When we return to Rehoboth, we will definitely stay at the Atlantic Sands again.

Room Tip: Room 220 faces Maryland Ave and has an ocean view. The two full-size beds are very comfortable.

Thank you so much for noting the “child-friendly” design of our new pool and the attentiveness of our staff! Each of us take great pride and care in how we greet and care for our guests; we really want everyone to enjoy their vacation with us! Your comfort is key, so we’re also pleased to know that you got a good night’s sleep! That was our goal when we recently equipped the entire hotel with new Serta Perfect Sleeper beds. We appreciate your review of our property and service, are glad you saw the value in not only our location but what we provide, and we hope to welcome you and your family to the Atlantic Sands again soon for another great beach getaway!

Lets start by clarifying the title...
It's not the Ritz - But given the rates you would think its the Ritz-Carlton and we stayed at the Ritz-Carlton and paid rates like this:

Ritz-Carlton Phoenix, AZ - $179 a night
Ritz-Carlton Sarasota, FL - $289 a night
Ritz-Carlton Naples, FL - $379 a night

We wanted a quick beach stay due to our lack of time and so we picked Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The place we picked ? The Atlantic Sands Hotel.

We paid $340 a night and had a terrible experience in an old and poorly kept room.

We arrived at 11:30 AM.

Check in is at 4:00 PM - we were only staying one night so basically the rate that we were paying was far beyond the rate of $340 since we would only have the room for 19 hour not 24 hours since check-out the next day would be at 11:00 AM

What does this translante to you ask? $429 per night!

When we booked the room, we booked it online through the hotel and requested a king bed in a direct oceanfront room. The room the site gave us was the $340 per night room. However, when we checked-in the gentleman at the front desk said there are no king beds in direct oceanfront rooms.

Doesn't management at the hotel undertsand their online reservation system is not properly set up to accommodate the various requests?

Doesn't anyone at the hotel understand this new thing called the "Internet"

Isn't there anyone at the hotel that is actually in charge of online bookings and understands how to run a e-commerece platform?

We asked to speak to the manager who was wonderful in trying to accommodate us... so he told us that the room we had booked had no view.

No View? Really? A beachfront hotel at $340 a night with no view?
Well, we are at a beachfront hotel, does it have a balcony? - No? Not even a balcony? Any doors that open to let in the sea air? No?

What the manager did offer was an upgrade to a room with a balcony, not direct oceanfront but it did have a balcony that we could see the ocean from... but not a king size bed - but two double beds. Oh honey! Ilove you so much that we each get our own bed!!!

We took the room but were very unhappy with the rate, the condition of the room, the bathroom especially and the view we didnt have.

You really need to ask yourself however how badly do you want to be on the beach instead of near the beach. This hotel is a very poorly run enterprise and its at everyones' expense that it may continue to exist buit my guess not for long... Or at least it sholdn't.

Management is oblivious to hospitality standards.

When we checked in, we were not given anything informative about the hotel like what restaurants they had, what were the hours, and where they were.

We were given no channel guides in out room which had a small flat screen TV and an old tube TV.

We were given no informative literature whatsover and, I would be surprised if this hotel actually has much of a revunue stream for any ancillary services that they might provide. Certainly they are missing out on a huge - HUGE - food and beverage income stream since whatever services they offer are not advertised. Who rundsthis place anyway? I would think a couple of B grade bsiness students in their third semester could turn this hotel araound.

The bathrooms... mold, stained and craked caulking around the tub.

The bathroom sink - single lever ball had a missing cap exposing the screw - a 25 cent fix... but ignored. The hotel management is responsible for items like this. Hotel management should be embarrassed about running a hotel with a room like this - and I suspect it is not the only room like this.

See the photos.

Here is the worst part of all this.... We stayed after the 4th of July weekend. The beginning of the tourist beach season. How could management kick off the tourist season with rooms in the condition that we found? If this is how it looks at the beginning of the season then it speaks volumes about the desire to have a pristine and well kept property.

I believe you would fare much better by selecting a different hotel.... Or select this one and add a review like ours.

Room Tip: Wi-Fi is free but log on early in the day because tehre is not enough bandwidth. You will have trou...

We respectfully disagree with this review. Our internet reservation system offers clear descriptions or our rooms including that a King Suite North (the type of room this guest actually booked through our own internet website) is “non-ocean view” and our reservation confirmation email messages clearly indicate that our check-in time is 4:00 p.m. Both our rates and our check-in times are common for the Rehoboth Beach resort area. The suite originally booked by this guest was a recently renovated room with all new flooring, wall coverings, furniture, linens and the king bed he’d requested. He and his wife refused it upon arrival because it had no view. Our front desk manager offered to upgrade them to the only full oceanfront room with a balcony we had available for that night however the guest also refused it, saying he would not to wait for that room to be available at the 4 p.m. check-in time. We do not believe it is unreasonable, when checkout time is 11:00 a.m. and the hotel is heavily booked, to allow our housekeeping staff ample time to prepare rooms for incoming guests. In another attempt to satisfy this guest, our front desk manager offered them an upgrade to a two-room suite with two queen (not double) beds, a balcony and an ocean view – also at no additional charge. Hundreds of internet reservations are made here each month without issue or concern and the vast majority of our guests are so satisfied that they become repeat guests. Many have chosen us as their hotel of choice for many years in a row. Other guests are enjoying all aspects of their stay including our new oceanfront pool, oceanfront restaurant, outdoor cafe, coffee shop and other amenities. We invite everyone to visit our Atlantic Sands Hotel & Conference Center Internet and Facebook pages to see and hear more from, and about, them and what our hotel really has to offer.

We just got back from a spectacular trip with our friends. The Atlantic Sands was in a perfect location. Right on the boardwalk/beach, within walking distance to shops and food. Really didn't have to get into the car until we shopped at the outlets ( which was a short drive ). Our room was clean except I felt the carpet looked very worn and did have some stains on it. But everything else was clean. We all felt though that the room was a bit too tiny, got very crowded especially with 4 people staying but we did manage fine. The bathroom is what was lacking the most when it came to space. Could have used more counter space area and the room itself was small. The balcony was great! We had an ocean front room so the view was breathtaking. They could have stocked us up with more towels, we had to ask for more but not a big deal.
Want to mention Donnell (I believe this is the correct spelling) who was a staff member here. He was very friendly, made us all smile when we ran into him. He was jolly and accommodating as well. It's nice to have fun spirited folks at a place like this. We did not go In the pool, every time we looked in it, it had sand that settled at the bottom , so made us a bit hesitant to enter it. The beach right in front of the hotel was perfect. A few short steps and you were right there on it. Overall we were satisfied and would recommend it.

Room Tip: Ocean front although a bit pricey, is worth it, the view is amazing.

Christa, the views from our oceanfront rooms are, indeed, spectacular! Rehoboth Beach is among the cleanest and most beautiful beaches in the nation and we are so happy to be able to provide our guests the best location in town for a Rehoboth Beach vacation! Our oceanfront rooms are not as spacious as our suites, many of which offer two queen beds and a separate living room with a pullout sofa to accommodate families or couples sharing a room, however they do offer that amazing view! Because our new pool overlooks the boardwalk and beach guests that come up from the beach to use the pool do occasionally have a little sand in their suits, even if they rinse off before entering the pool. Our pool is sparkling clean every morning and we maintain it, our overnight rooms and our entire property so that everything is clean and safe for all of our guests. We hope you’ll feel free to enjoy it on your next stay. Thanks for complimenting one of our staff members; we enjoy our guests and try to make everyone’s stay pleasant and enjoyable!

Nothing 'new' here. Top notch location, but suites are small, a family of four will just have enough space to move around in a Suite. Room quality was average at best with our refrigerator broken and the ceiling cracked. Surprisingly the Hotel suffers from a shortage of pillows, yes, pillows! Our room was equipped with couch pillows for sleeping.
On the plus side, pool is clean, and there is outdoor bar on premises so you can self medicate yourself to prepare for a restless night of sleep on you throw pillow.

We realize that not all guests may be familiar with European style square pillows that are used in many fine hotels now and wish you had asked our front desk or housekeeping staff for traditional pillows, as we would have been happy to provide them. There’s no shortage of pillows here and our staff is happy to address any concerns or questions a guest may have about pillows, refrigerators or any of the amenities provided in our guest rooms. We’re proud of our heritage as a landmark oceanfront hotel in Rehoboth Beach and the many renovations and upgrades we have made in the past two years as well as our ongoing projects to beautify our property and make it more enjoyable for all of our guests. We’re happy you enjoyed our brand new pool and Sandcrab beach bar, as well as our fantastic location on the beach and boardwalk and we invite you to visit again.

Just spent the weekend at the best kept secret in Rehoboth Beach Delaware. This hotel was very reasonably priced, amazingly clean with the perfect location. It sits right on the Boardwalk, within easy walking distance of the main shopping/dining avenue. We were lucky to have Tommy and Paige as our poolside servers both days we were there. These two employees worked long hours and when we saw them early into their shift their smiles, efficiency, and great personalities were the same ten hours later as their shift ended. They helped make our Atlantic Sands stay a PERFECT weekend get-away. Every member of the staff was helpful, pleasant and very knowledgeable about the area, dining spots, and shopping venues. The pool overlooking the ocean was peaceful and relaxing - the towels and beach chairs were like new.. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. I had read a review about it being loud at night on the weekends and am very glad I overlooked that possibility. After 9pm on both Friday and Saturday night, we heard nothing that I would have considered noisy or aggravating. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT choice!

Room Tip: We had an ocean view room and could see and hear the ocean from our balcony ----it was perfect.
