Munduk Moding Plantation
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 26 November 2010

My husband and I stayed at Munduk Moding Plantation during our August honeymoon.. We only stayed one night here, as we were exploring as much of Bali as we could, but knowing what we know now, we would have stayed here for the majority of our trip. This is the part of Bali one visits for tranquility and rejuvenation.

The location is just spectacular: perched on a moutainside overlooking lush vegetation. The grounds are beautiful and one can walk them at leisure or get a guided tour (note: there are a lot of stairs on the propery, so not an ideal place for those with physical limitations). There is a one hour complementary tour of the grounds included in your stay. The infinity pool was beautiful with a gorgeous backdrop. The water was a bit chilly, but we didn't mind a bit. We had the pool to ourselves. That is another thing - there are only 3 villas and 2 suites, so it was never crowded and we felt as though all guests are treated with extra special care. When we arrived, we were given leis and tea by the pool.

The villa was fantastic. We couldn't get enough of the view and we would open up the large windows and just listen to the birds and roosters and chanting coming from the hills. The bed is a good size and comfortable; there is a TV, minibar/fridge, big bath tub, lots of space, and I particularly liked the outdoor shower (there is both an indoor and an outdoor shower).

The Plantation also offers tours to various locations both in the area and further afield. If we had more time, we would have made a day trip, but we were limited for time so we got a driver to take us to the Munduk waterfall nearby (worth a look).

The food was Indonesian and Balinese fare and we quite liked it, especially the Indonesian breakfast. We ate our breakfast outside under the bale.

I highly recommend Munduk Moding Plantation if you are seeking out a quiet, peaceful, rejuvenating place. This is the Bali that I had hoped for, and if I am fortunate to return to Bali again, I will be returning to Munduk Moding.

I am currently breaking the vow mentioned during the fire time gathering I had with other Munduk guests. The vow was not to share any great review about Munduk with anybody on Tripadvisor. Hence, we could keep Munduk as our little secret. :-) I stayed at Munduk for 2 nights with my partner and his parents. Munduk is the place that believes small things do matter:
a. Mint cocktails, warm towel to refresh and a lovely chain made from local flowers as a welcome gesture.
b. Its infinity pool surrounded by beautiful landscape of Bali mountain scape.
c. Many good books in art, design and cooking laying nicely in their small library.
d. Lovely design of their villas with their outdoor shower, stoney bath tub, separate shower and toilet, working desk, electronic sets (flat TVs and audio/ video), a comfortable bed with beautiful mosquito nets, tea and coffee set and sliding doors to enjoy fresh weather. Oh, they wrap the hair dryer and telephone in simple 'batik' bags.
e. Massage that can easily be arranged to be done in the room.
f. Well-manicured gardens.
g. Tasty cuisines served in interesting presentation (like the small grill used for chicken satay).
h. Wi-fi connection for free from your room.

I could still go on with many good things about this place. But, I'll finish here. Bottom line, the place is perfect if you are trying to find balance between retreat and active holiday (many activities could be arranged within one-day trip, including shopping -if you need to). :-)

However, the place is not suitable for whom not preferring 'cardio-walk' to the villas.

Arrived late at night at MMP. When I woke up the next morning I thought this must be paradise. This small hotel is nestled in lovely surroundings of tropical plants, gardens and forests. The cottages are beautifully decorated and furnished to a very high standard. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to be as the only noise you will hear is the sound of nature. The hotel service and the food in the restaurant is brilliant. When staying at MMP you also have to have a Spa treatment, which is located in a secluded area of the plantation. I definitely can recommend the Munduk Moding Plantation Hotel.

we were looking forward to some peace and quiet after the hustle and bustle of kuta... and MMP delivered it and then some! what a wonderful place to destress and unwind. the staff were always there when you needed them but at the same time 'invisible'. we were only too happy to be 'trapped' in this little piece of paradise.

We stayed for 3 nights in Villa # 1 and could not have been happier with the service, friendliness of the staff, quality of the food and the high standard of accommodation. The spa is also very good, even providing electric blanket on the massage table as it can be quite chilly. MMP in my opinion offers very good value for money, is very well managed and definitely worth a visit. Thank you Gede for such great hospitality. Jill and Dean

We (2 couples) stayed for 2 nights at the hotel suite and grand suite. That meant that we had a huge balcony on our own overlooking the pool, the mountains and valleys and the Bali Sea. MMP is real value for money, rooms and facilities are great and food is very good. We had breakfast every morning in the garden and dinner inside the restaurant as evenings in this area tend to be chilly.

For those who believe Bali is more than sunny beaches, coral reef and Ubud, MMP is a treat. You will find this small resort, so well designed and executed with plentiful ‘private’ space, on a mountain slope in a coffee plantation. Our villa (No.1) was very comfortable, even with TV, which is nice as the evenings set in early. The staff comes from the neighbourhood, is attached to this undertaking and makes you feel part of it, besides rendering professional service. Guests may profit from a large variety of activities on the premises –dive e.g. into the swimming pool and you understand the meaning of ‘infinity’- as well as in the surroundings. All these attributes are begging you to stay longer. It was value for money. For all these reasons we enjoyed our stay at MMP so much. We look forward to coming back.
