“Terrible food”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

I went for business lunch and the buffet was terrible. The service was good but the quality and variety of food was absolutely not worth recommending. We were little slow in eating and by the time we went for the second round they were already winding up. They didn't have a courtesy to even inform us to hurry up. Anyway, it is not worth trying so don't waste your time. There are many other good Indian restaurants nearby.

“Food is Good, Service was Rude and Slow”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

We used to come here frequently and enjoy it, so decided to return this past Friday night. We were greeted and seated right away, and saw that there was only one other group seated at a table nearby. Otherwise, the place was completely empty. The waitress that came over was very miserable. She never introduced herself, never smiled, never followed up. We had requested drinks a couple times. Even after our starters arrived, we still had no drinks. We approached the man (host?) that seated us, and then saw the waitress coming back into the restaurant carrying an ice bag. Wow...Friday night and you have to go buy ice?? Some more time passed, and finally the drinks came. Maybe we should have been told when ordering that there would be a 15 minute delay on drinks. She never checked on our food, or to see if there was anything we needed. She disappeared, and everything was very slow, but the place was empty. Thankfully, the nice man that originally seated us took over serving our table. He was very efficient and tried to save our experience, we think. The food is good, although when I ordered my food medium spicy it came out very spicy. If it was not for the man taking over the service, this review would be terrible. Thank you to him for trying!

“Good local Indian Food”
Reviewed 21 March 2013 via mobile

Best local Indian fare. Well cooked(but avoid the buffet), the service is slow but very kind. The food isvery well flavored and tastes home cooked. Portions and prices should be improved, ask for Tahira, the hostess. She is the sweets lady with a warm welcoming smile. We always enjoy the food - both eat in and take out,

“Unfortunately Just Strip-Mall Indian”
Reviewed 17 February 2013

After all the good reviews for this restaurant for the lunch buffet we thought we would try it for dinner. While the service was friendly and attentive, the food turned out to be very ordinary and bland. Quantity was not lacking but inspired cuisine certainly was. Certainly nothing special or worthy of a repeat trip. We have been to many Indian restaurants in the US and England and judge the food at India Grille to be towards the bottom. One true measure is how well the lamb is trimmed for the lamb dishes - in this case not very well as many chunks were fatty or hard to chew. Spices were very muted, perhaps as a compromise to the uninitiated palate.

Between Newark, DE and Philly, the best Indian restaurant remains India Palace on Maryland Ave.
