“Classic service”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

Dinner late on a Monday evening. So, only two other parties in the impressive Green Room. The service was classic and very attentive with an elegantly set spacious table and very grand chairs. We had reservations, and when presented with the menu, my name was printed, not written, on the page. As it was late, we only had main courses and wine. One of us had roasted duck. It was nicely presented and sumptuously delicious; duck done correctly has the flavor to which filet Mignon aspires, One of us had filet Mignon and lobster tail, both very good. The wine was also very good. After dinner we took a look at the extensive, impressive, and beautifully decorated and illuminated public rooms of the hotel. The equal of any hotel in New York, London, Paris. Presumably the Duponts created this grand hotel to both enjoy themselves and to show the world that Wilmington had world class amenities.

The service was absolutely amazing. A very nice selection of different foods to chose from on the menu. The food looks and tastes so great. The Green Room is now on my top favorite of places to eat at.

“So Very Sad”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

We were so looking forward to a wonderful Sunday Brunch on June 22nd with a dear friend. We had such good memories of the beautiful room, gracious service and very good food. Sadly this has gone down the tubes - the room is still wonderful .... all else has been lost. This is now strictly self serve buffet style with an omlette station. The station also had 2 ends of mystery meat that were very unappealing and long past their time. The appetizer area was very poor as well .. soggy bits of bread with some toppings, smoked salmon with no condiments and some dry mussels and some very dry looking tiny shrimp; also a dish of luke warm soup with no identification. The hot foods were stored in large chaffing dishes with heavy lids and absolutely nothing labeled to let you know contents -- the food had been there for quite a long time and most items were very dryed out and most unappetizing. The dessert table was large & round and just about empty when we were ready to see the offerings -- there was no one in sight checking or restocking so we sat back down.
Our server was a young woman with absolutely no clue and no obvious training ... you would ask for juice, coffee etc. and nothing would arrive. You had to catch her on the run and then still waited - unusual since she had few tables since the room was not crowded and she simply disappeared most of the time to the closed off side of the room.
We sat with dirty dishes on table most of the meal and when she did try to clear she dropped most of the silverware on the floor.
When we had Brunch about a year ago there was complimentary champagne or mimosa's with the brunch ... I asked at the beginning of our adventure and was told yes, they are included - much later some very warm drinks and juice arrived but unfortunately not my husbands juice ... took 3 trys for that.
The absolutely most unacceptable part of the service -- about 30 minutes into our experience the server arrived and presented our check and placed the black booklet on table ???
When we finally finished after a delightful conversation the server was back with another check for the mimosa she had offered while we were sitting there ... never mentioning there was going to be an additional charge!!
When we left the Green Room there was absolutely no one at the desk ... not even the very casual open-shirted no tie young man who was the desk presence during our meal .. he was elsewhere when we arrived. A very gracious lady who was also serving was the one who seated us. Since we had a parking ticke that we wanted to have validated we went to the front desk and were advised that the matre'd would do that. We told her he was missing in action and she said she would validate so we did not have to walk back .... could this be 'customer service'.
Again this was so very sad/bad ... the ambiance of the room can not possibly make up for some of the worst food and extremely poor service we have ever encountered. I don't think my dear friend who treated us for our anniversary will recover from the check being placed on our table at the beginning of our meal .... the only thing that we didn't have to ask for .. multiple times ....

Hotel_duPont_DE, Manager at Green Room, responded to this review, 27 June 2014
Thank you for taking your time to express your dissatisfaction with the food and service you received during your recent visit to the Green Room at the Hotel du Pont. Please know that we are extremely disappointed that we failed to provide you the kind of experience that you would expect to receive in the Green Room. I could certainly take the time to provide a reasonable explanation of how so many things could go wrong all at the same time, but that may appear to be making excuses and I will not do that. Your input is extremely valuable to us and we have shared your review with our culinary and service team and they also extend their sincere apologies. We hope you will allow us another opportunity to demonstrate that we can do better and will look forward to welcoming you back. Thank you again.

“Beautiful Room spoiled”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

You would expect great service in regal setting like this. May be the worst service I've seen in years. Understaffed, illiterate staff, and poorly trained. The room was nearly empty at lunch, but still had to search for waiter numerous times. He couldn't answer the most basic questions about the menu, said he would "Axe" someone. The food was actually quite good, but I would never return here. There was no manager to complain to, and it really seemed like they just didn't care. What a shame.
