“Wished We Could Have Stayed Longer”

I had heard about Boca Grande 32 years ago and finally made it there to check it out. When we walked into the Redfish Suite at the Palmetto Inn our immediate reaction was a pleasant surprise how nice, clean, and accommodating it was and to wish our reservations had extended more nights. A fantastic bargain at $150 per night too for this time of year in southwest Florida.

The Florida travel guides all leave out one important fact about the traffic being an unrelenting nightmare among roads, lights, and freeways designed to handle nowhere near the volume they get but that mess is left behind right at the bridge onto Gasparilla Island and if you can be blessed with staying on this island or in Boca Grande for a few days by all means do so. Everything in the village is an easy walk and there are plenty of places to eat and shop.

Bev, the owner, treats everyone as a good innkeeper would and that sets the Palmetto apart from other places we noticed. Our suite, the Redfish, had a full kitchen with small living room and the bedroom and bathroom were separated by a door. It was amazingly quiet both nights. The rooms and public places in the house are squeaky clean.

Some things you need to know:
A toll is collected every time you cross the bridge onto the island, $6
Rent a bicycle or a golf cart, there is a well marked, paved, non motorized pathway running north to south down the spine in the center of the island and gets you anywhere you may want to go.
Our favorite place to eat breakfast was the 3rd Street Cafe and it is just around the corner from the Palmetto Inn. They have a charming outdoor patio and many healthy items on the menu.
The beach can be accessed at the dead end of nearly every street near the downtown or a short walk down the pathway to the Range Light beach parking lot.
Keep in mind nearly all business close and they roll up the sidewalks by 9:00 PM, including most restaurants.
The one block Banyan Street (2nd Street) is truly an unusual sight to see so don't miss it.
The Palmetto Inn is currently listed for sale. While we don't know how long it has been listed or an asking price, the days of its cozy, quaint, and comfortable atmosphere the way it exists now may be numbered so don't delay if you have a notion to come here.

Just returned from spending a month at The Palmetto Inn. Yes the place is in a great location, is immaculately clean, and is just an all around great place to stay, but the real reason to stay at The Palmetto is because of the owners Beverly and Len. These are two of the nicest people I have met in my many years of traveling and staying in various types of accommodations. My wife and I saw them daily and are proud to now call them friends. They treated us like members of their family and made sure any need we had was taken care of. I can't say enough about these two and how they made our stay one of the best trips of my life.

As far as Boca Grande I would highly recommend it if you're looking for a place to spend a low key vacation in a quiet and beautiful setting. The beaches are first rate, the water is a lovely blue color, you will see many types of wildlife both in and out of the water, and the town is a great place to hang out. If you like to run or walk there are miles of both asphalt and dirt paths on the island. Just a great place to spend a few days or better still a few months.

Staying at the Palmetto is like staying with friends - which they become
when you stay there. Terrific location downtown, park the car and never
drive it while you're there. Spotless, complete amenities. Bike rental one
block away, Many choices of dining within a block. Bev will even walk with
you down to see the sunset each evening.

Room Tip: Quiet location, all rooms are good.

We stayed at this cozy, homelike inn for three nights in the snook apartment/suite which is located in the back of the inn with its own entrance. Although adjacent to a back fence and alley, we had absolutely no concerns. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by the proprietors, Bev and Len, who made us feel right at home. They were always available if we needed any assistance or advice; yet they left us to our own so we could explore all the secrets of this little island which feels so far away. They even helped us explore possibilities on the island for larger and long-term winter rentals in addition to their own premises. We really enjoyed conversing with them as we shared a New England heritage. We appreciated Bev's little notes which she affixed to our door with additional recommendations. It was a nice old-fashioned touch. We also paid a reasonable rate which was very affordable for this island. We hope they don't retire yet so we can maybe return. This inn is very conveniently located with many restaurants and churches located nearby. We also found most people on the island very friendly and there was none of the traffic one encounters in other parts of Florida. All in all, we would highly recommend this location and don't mind the simple touches.

Room Tip: For a couple, you don't need any more than the small nook suite which has a full kitchen and is...

We loved The Palmetto Inn. Beverly and Len are fabulous!

Perfect for a low key vacation where you can park the car and just wander around on foot/bike/golf cart.

Our efficiency had a full kitchen, comfortable beds and was spotlessly clean.

What a darling couple that owns this cute old florida style inn! Upon arrival we were greeted with friendly smiles and fresh gardenias that they had picked for us from their garden. Stayed in the Snook Suite, incredibly clean and quaint. Enjoyed our stay. If it is your first trip to Boca Grande, make sure to walk around and check out the banyan trees.
