Owner description: Sugar Sand Park features the Community Center, which houses the Children's Science Explorium and the Willow Theatre; and the Field House, which features an indoor gymnasium. Developed by the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District and operated by the City of Boca Raton, this 132-acre park continues its commitment to enhance the role of recreation and culture for residents and visitors alike. Sugar Sand Park is open 365 days a year - the Community Center and Children's Science Explorium are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Built to American Society for Testing & Materials standards, the Science Playground is strong and safe, with a soft, impact-attenuating ground surface. This surface is also the key to the wayfinding feature, allowing parents and children to pinpoint their exact location within the playground through identifying markings. The inclusive playground features new swings, slides, and an expanded climbing structure that allows for greater access to people of all ages and abilities, and greater visibility for parents and children alike. The updated interactive water feature showcases a variety of sea creatures, and a new train station-themed toddler play area has been added.

What an awesome place! We brought our 5yr old and drove from Palm Beach. Was only about 35 minutes away. Being on a very tight budget I was so happy to find this. A gorgeous carousel for only $1 per person - which was the only thing that cost us anything. The play area is amazing! I think if it hadn't been so humid the day we went we could have spent hours playing in it. A huge maze type wooden treehouse, swings, sand pit, plus a little water area (bring bathing suits!) which was a perfect end to the day. The science museum was amazing as well! The staff was very nice. She loved every minute of this trip! And what a beautiful area. Definitely check this out if you have little ones! I only wish we had something like this in our hometown ;)

“A Great Place for the Grandchildren-Bring Their Swimsuits”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2013

The Sugar Sand science playground in Boca Raton was developed by the Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District and is operated by the City of Boca Raton. It has won several awards for excellence, such as "Best of the Best Parks" in 2007. There are a bunch of good reasons for the awards.

The park is free. The park has lots to do. The park is well-built, safe, and interesting. The central playground is built on three levels. As you climb in and around this area there a variety of interactive play stations with moving parts and sounds that offers little kids a very nice hands on experience. There are gentle steps to get to the different levels and both stairs and slides to get down. We were there with our 3-year-old granddaughter and 7-year-old grandson and both of them had a great time. The interior of the central playground has a water trough and water jets will keep those who want to splash busy, while others can still sit on the benches and watch without getting wet.

Outside of the central playground are swings, and drums, and moving things as well as a separate area with swings and things for toddlers. There are also picnic tables. The playground is located outdoors adjacent to Sugar Sand Park Community Center/Children's Science Explorium which is also supposed to be great, but we didn’t have the time. Even though we live in West Palm Beach, some 40 miles north, we will come back here. It is a great place for kids!
