Attraction details
Owner description: Sugar Sand Park features the Community Center, which houses the Children's Science Explorium and the Willow Theatre; and the Field House, which features an indoor gymnasium. Developed by the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District and operated by the City of Boca Raton, this 132-acre park continues its commitment to enhance the role of recreation and culture for residents and visitors alike. Sugar Sand Park is open 365 days a year - the Community Center and Children's Science Explorium are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. The Science Playground will reopen to the public on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10am. Built to American Society for Testing & Materials standards, the playground will be stronger and safer, with a soft, impact-attenuating ground surface. This surface is also the key to the wayfinding feature, allowing parents and children to pinpoint their exact location within the playground through identifying markings. The inclusive playground will feature new swings, slides, and an expanded climbing structure that will allow for greater access to people of all ages and abilities, and greater visibility for parents and children alike. The updated interactive water feature will showcase a variety of sea creatures, and a new train station-themed toddler play area has been added.

“Don't eat the Sugar Sand”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2014

It's called Sugar Sand Park after the unique sandy ridge which runs along the Southeast Coast of Florida. The sand on the beaches is mostly golden, so its called the Gold Coast. West of that is a ridge of fine white sand the consistency of granulated sugar. The park is a great place to bring the family. There's a working maerry-go-round, hiking trails, shady picnic areas, a science pavilion, and best of all, the Willow Theatre, where you can see surprisingly professional performance in a small, intimate theatre. Their biggest attraction is Shriek Week during Halloween. It is so scary really young children are not allowed. The park is free, there's a fee for SHriek Week and Willow Theatre.

Very nice fenced in playground with swings, climbers, little water area, sandbox, wooden maze type structure. Also has shaded picnic area. There were a couple of walking trails in the park that were interesting too.

“A wonderful family outing for you and your child...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014

Growing up in the northeast, carousels were pretty common when I was a child.

I've not seen any in Florida until we took a trip to Sugar Sand Park.

This is a really nice dstination to take a toddler to. Our little girl loved the "horsies" on the carousel.

She also loved the science exhibits where little ones can touch all and play with all.

The exhibits were clean and well maintained and the desk staff was very friendly.

This was a really nice experience that I highly recommend.
