Bonita Beach & Tennis Club

We have stayed in different units at the BB & T club and we've never been disappointed! The pools are always impeccably clean and well maintained. The owners' organization constantly does upgrades. The people there are kind and helpful. There isn't a better situated club in SW fla that is so affordable (we just paid $420 for a week during spring break in an ocean view unit!).

We found this place to be in a perfect location for our plans and activities. Since we planned on doing things in both Fort Myers and Naples, plus the Everglades, this place really served its purpose for us. We stayed one week. We rented our unit thru VRBO. Great rates for April. We arrived on the 7th. The Easter vacation crowd had departed. It is a quiet place, with a mix of residents and resort guests. The staff in the office were always helpful and friendly.

The grounds are lovely and well kept. The grass is green and thick and flowers are planted in just the right spots. Two small artificial ponds with water features are a nice touch. There is a
canal and river/estuary behind the complex, with plenty of greenery. We were in Building 5, 10th floor, back of building (away from the road). Perfect views. Off to the right was this large expanse
of river with hammocks and trees, with quite a bit of boat traffic. Straight out we could watch the
tennis players every morning, see the people at the two lovely pools, watch the grounds crew at
work, and see the skyline of a neighborhood and beyond. To the left, we could see the Gulf of
Mexico and Estero Island and Ft. Myers Beach curving along the coast. We thoroughly enjoyed
sitting out on our nice sized screened balcony (lanai) in the morning and in the evening.

Our unit was nice. Had everything we needed. There could be some improvements. They are small, and some advertise as having a bedroom, (ours did not advertise this way). There is a
sliding panel accordion type door you can pull across, but this will block access to the bathroom
for those that are sleeping out on the pullout couch. All units differ as far as furnishings I
imagine, as some units are rented directly thru owners and others thru the resort. Ours had a
very comfortable, king sized bed. Walk in closet. Small bathroom. The kitchen has a regular size
stove/oven and frig, as well as a microwave. Coffee maker, toaster. Well stocked with
necessities. Our unit was clean and had enough paper products, so we did not have to buy any.
there is large, very clean laundry room in 3 of the buildings.

I see the resort gets mixed reviews. This is not a fancy or upscale resort at all. It is older and
needs work in probably every unit. But it is clean and comfortable and provides everything you
need. We recommend it and we would return!

There is a small beach parking lot (must pay to park) right across the street (from Building 1).
The beach here is OK. Right across from Building 5, there is a gated development with gorgeous
homes. You can drive right thru, and do not have to atop at the gate, to get to Barefoot Beach
Preserve. This is a beautiful beach! Great shelling. Amenities. Lots of locals shelling (snowbirds)
and they gave us lots of shelling advice. :)!! You might get to see the protected gopher tortoise!
$8 entry fee. And then you are not far from other beaches. The drive to Fort Myers Beach from
Bonita Beach is lovely, but a traffic nightmare, once you approach FMB proper, sometimes while still on Estero Island. So, we only made this mistake once-LOL.

Bonita Springs has some lovely restaurants and all amenities, including a nice shopping mall/center. Very close to N Naples and all it has to offer. Again, we found the location perfect for
our needs.

Room Tip: Get the highest floor possible, they do have elevators!!

My sister and I spent a lot of time searching for a place on Bonita Beach for our 2 week vacation. It paid off. We rented through Royal Shell and, although they charged a $100 rental fee, we were very pleased with the service and the condition of our unit. Ours was on the 8th floor of Building 2. When we walked in, it was obvious that it had been thoroughly cleaned. In fact, we found the entire complex to be very clean. We had 2 double beds, 2 love seats, 2 side chairs, a panel TV, washer/dryer in the bathroom, well equipped kitchen, table and chairs, spacious outfitted closet, a desk with drawers and a dining table and chairs. It was perfectly furnished for 2 people. The lanai faced south and had 2 chairs and a small table. Royal Shell provided us with very nice beach chairs and an umbrella for our entire stay.

The only negative was the Red Tide which we encountered on the beach almost every day. It irritates the respiratory system and cause coughing and sneezing with burning eyes. Most days it was just a little coughing, but a couple of days it was so bad that we had to leave. There was a fish kill on one of those days. Apparently, red tide is always in the Gulf and the concentrations vary with winds and tides, so it is very unpredictable. Since this was a beach vacation for us, we were unhappy with the situation.

But we still went to the beach most days and were able to enjoy the beautiful views and almost perfect weather. In the end, we were very satisfied with our trip.

The condos in this resort are all "studio" types units. The age of the place is about 35 years old. We stayed in bldg 4, room 4404 and had a view of the pool outside in back. Condo was decent but very small but not very clean. 2 full size beds and a pull out couch if you need it. One bathroom which was very small. No place really to put one's clothes out from the suitcase. The unit did have all the amenities in the kitchen (stove, fridge, micro-wave and coffee maker). I can't see anyone staying more than a week there although there are people who stay there months at a time. The beach, one has to walk acroos the street, was very nice. Condo did furnish nice lounge chairs for you to use. Overall, if you want something cheap this is the place.

Room Tip: Talk to the owner of the condo when inquiring about a room through the site VRBO.com and negotiate w...

I don't know if we just got a bad unit or what, but I wont be returning.

No more than 2 adults and a baby in this condo. It is not a true one bedroom and is set up more like a studio with a king bed. This was plenty for us as a couple.

Overall condition:
Old, old, old. Thee couch and chairs were stained with dirt. We used the towels to sit on them because they just looked gross.
it has a funky smell to it, so make sure you bring your febreeze (we had yo go buy some).
the bed was fine. Plenty of extra bedding.
the bathroom needed to be updated badly. Wouldn't kill them to spend $10 on a new showerhead to replace the rusty one from the 1950s. There were plenty of towels.

The kitchen was adequately stocked with dishes. Make sure you bring your own salt, pepper, seasonings. I am pretty sure the salt shaker with rust on the top has been there for ages. The microwave is small and old. There is no dishwasher.

Carpet is stained.
the decor is ancient.

the location is this place's saving grace. Very easy to get to the beach across the street. We enjoyed walking across the street into the barefoot beach club fancy neighborhood for our morning walks.

Wifi: they don't advertise it, but we were able to get it. Huge plus!

Given the lack of response from royal shell vacations, I wont be using them again for any rentals.

We had been here before and had one of the studios away from the elevators. It was livable but no jewel. We couldn't believe how noisy the elevators are and they wake you up at midnight with the returning revelers and gamblers, then at 5am they start up again with paper delivery and early risers. Unreal how noisy this place is for the general age group. Units near the elevators are numbered 3,4,7 & 8. I would definately avoid those numbered units if you want to sleep more than 5 hrs a night! Estero Beach & Tennis on Fort Myers Beach is configured with side by side elevators not near any unit in the stack and are secured at night. Plus no open walkway on the inside so you don't hear all the slamming doors and it is set far enough off the street so you don't hear all the traffic. We'll be heading back there ourselves!

We rented out unit #3404 at Bonita Beach and Tennis Club directly from the owners Maria and Slavko through www.HomeAway.com for a two-week family getaway in August 2011. Tons of units were up for rent at the time, but theirs was the best price! There were 4 of us - my parents, my 4-year old son and me - in a studio (one queen size bed, a sofa bed, one bathroom). The unit was clean, with good furniture and fully equipped kitchen to prepare meals (except for the dishwasher which we didn't really need); plenty of beach accessories that came in handy (chairs, umbrella, cooler, kids beach toys). We contacted the owners regarding couple minor incidents, and they were very responsive and took care of everything immediately. They also were very helpful in recommending local attractions/grocery stores/restaurants, which made it easier for us. As for the size of the studio, it was definitely too tight for 3 adults and a child (and that’s what Maria warned me about); I think it would be a perfect spot for 2 adults though, or with smaller children. We noticed some families with teenage children and other families with more than 4 adult members, all staying at the Club; understanding that all the units are studios, I wondered whether these folks all squeezed into one unit or rented out several adjacent units... So 4 stars is only for the small size studios, I wish the Club would have had more sizing options. At the time the Club was almost vacant, only a few friendly locals and 3-4 other families. The property is very well maintained, clean and safe; two full-size pools, plus a kiddy pool, most of the time just to ourselves; vacant tennis courts; and, of course, Bonita Beach right across the street. Friday & Saturday night live music at the local Bonita Breeze Restaurant was a nice surprise. The first week of August the weather was perfect, and we spent most of the time at the beach. The second week was rainy and stormy; I wish we'd rented a car to drive around and see more local attractions in and around Naples. Meanwhile, in the evenings we had fun with the jigsaw puzzles, all provided by the Club association. We also used the local trolley service to run to a nearby shopping center and then up Hickory Blvd (that turns into Estero Blvd) all the way to Ft. Myers Beach promenade area. BTW, a walk/run up and down Hickory Blvd from the Club was a great workout, so many gorgeous houses/properties along the way. Same goes for the Bonita Beach walk/run; shelling was great too! Unfortunately, the weather hindered our plan to explore the Lover's Key State Park, which we heard is a great place if you’re into outdoor sports/nature walks. The sunshine returned the day before we left; however, the local authorities issued a warning for a number of local beaches including Bonita Beach that it was unsafe for swimmers due to high levels of bacteria identified in water sampling taken on August 11 (aka "swim at your own risk"). We also visited Barefoot Beach State Preserve - gosh, I wish it wasn't on the last day of our stay, the beach there was THE BEST place, a picture perfect of beauty and tranquility. All in all, it was a very low-key/hassle-free family vacation; all we wanted was to spend some quality time together on the coast, which we did (I’m working on a photo album right now, it brings in so many wonderful memories!) And there's still a ton of fun stuff to do/explore in the Naples area, so we're planning to be back, maybe earlier in summer to avoid rain. Honestly, I could easily spend the entire summer there, with enough money and/or vacation time :-)

Room Tip: All units at the club are the same; unit numbers ending in 5, 6, 7 face the beach, better view of go...
