This was our second time at the Gulf Drive Cafe and was excited to go back to enjoy there scrumptious extra crispy fries; although this time we ordered more delicious food... the crab cake sandwich and a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries...yum! We were also delighted to sit in the beautiful afternoon sun with awesome service...Collin, our waiter was the best waiter we had in awhile. He was consistent, answered all my questions, served our food promptly with an awesome personality and the food he suggested was exceptional. We cannot wait to go back...

It's great that it's a tiki bar on the beach, but the hostess was rude. We were an inconvenience to her. I would not go back.

We were visiting very dear friends in the area and they wanted to treat us to a local "tropical delight" but it very quickly turned into a "large tropical nightmare". The only saving grace about this restaruant was the view of the Gulf of Mexico.

It started with us having to wait for 30 minutes for a table for 5 people when the restaraunt was not crowded. There were empty tables all over the place ... and the only place to sit and wait for a table was on the outside deck in two small chairs. So we sat, watching the entire staff bend over backwards to serve more beer to a table of five adults who were already intoxicated to the point where they spilled hot coffee on a small baby girl in their care ... while trying force a small male toddler in their care to eat a hamburger he clearly did not want to put in hos mouth.

After we checked in with the hostess for the 3rd time to see when we would be seated, and pointed out the number of vacant tables that could be moved to together to accomodate a party of 5, the hostess insisted she had to "get permission from the manager" to put 2 tables together. I suggested we leave and go to another restaraunt and the hostess shrugged it off saying "if that's what you want to do".

After a nasty scene, in which the female "manager" came over and was just as rude and arrogant as the hostess (and during which I suggested again that we leave and eat somewhere else), we were seated at two tables which we had to push together ourselves. The waitress was nice, and very apologetic for the inconvenience, but that was not enough to make up for the sloppy service and the worst food I think we ate the entire weekend. It took 3 waiters over and hour to bring out the food, which I normally would have sent back immediately, but the visit to this eatery had already proven to be a such a disaster it wasn't worth torturing ourselves any longer.

Two of us ordered Eggs Benedict which was cooked improperly. The eggs were hard boiled instead of softly poached, what was supppoed to be Canadian bacon was actually thick-sliced canned ham which had been thrown on a grill, and the Hollandaise sauce was a powered, chalky mixture that was watery and tasteless. One of our friends ordered a Turkecy Club sandwich without American Cheese ... she got a Turkey Club sandwich, but the bacon was mushy, the tomatoes should have been discarded two days ago, and the cooks had clearly tried to take off the American Cheese that they put on the sandwich (leaving little chips of American Cheese throughout the sandwich, which our friend had to pick out). What was supposed to be "hash browns" were actually mashed potatoes that had been thrown into a frying pan to brown on one side. The waitress had to ask permission to serve me an Iced Coffee ... although there was a sign in the lobby advertising iced coffee as a "specialty". The pancakes were undercooked and doughy. All-in-all, the food was AWFUL!!!!!!

Although it was offered, we skipped dessert because they did not lok appetizing. This restaraunt attempts to keep desserts "fresh" by pre-slicing the cakes and pies, wrapping them in plastic wrap on a plate and putting them on display in a deli-type glass front cooler. NOT ENTICING!

To say the least, we all ended up feeling sick to our stomaches later on that afternoon.

Obviously, we will not return to this restaraunt, we will notrecommend this restaraunt to anyone, and would highly recommend anyone reading these reviews to avoid this restaraunt completely!

Good candidate for "Restaraunt Impossible".
