“Potentially extraordinary with better cleaning and maintenance.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for a week to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We were in Pineapple, #111 by the pool.

Good:
The resort is unique, quiet and quaint. The beach itself is fantastic and the lounge chairs are perfect for watching the gorgeous gulf sunset. We loved the low-key relaxed environment and the privacy afforded us by the abundant foliage and individual units. Our bungalow's white decor, vaulted ceilings, and wood floors were charming and inviting. Yes, our bungalow was tiny - especially the bathroom. However, we knew this when we chose it and we saw photos beforehand, so there was no surprise. The beach is only a few yards away from any of the bungalows.

Bad:
Our roof leaked. The bed spread and bed skirt were stained. One of the blinds had a broken slat right by the bed, and several blinds were stained and dirty. There was a layer of dust on all of the trim, the curtains, and doors. Some of the curtains and decorative pillows were stained and the bed was far from comfortable. The pool was refreshing and pretty as it was surrounded by beautiful tall palm trees, but it really needs to be cleaned daily because of the constant fall of those berries/seeds from the palms. It was only cleaned once or twice during our 6 day stay. There were broken and rusting beach chairs sitting in front of the resort's beach lounges that were never removed, and cigarette butts littered the beautiful path to the beach. There is no free wifi, only paid wifi available in the tiny lobby for $7 a day or $15 a week. We were also disappointed in the lack of recycling on the island.

Overall, the only thing that keeps this resort from being extraordinary is their lack of attention to detail with cleaning and maintenance. Each bungalow is very different, so do your research when booking and look at all the photos - especially those from users here on TripAdvisor. Some bungalows are bigger than others and only a few are directly on the beach.

We would give this resort one more try because of its potential and excellent location, with the hope that they will step up their cleaning and maintenance.

We had a great time !!!!!! The pool home was private and relaxing. Only a few issues and that was AC on the verge of breaking down and refrigerator not getting cold. We had 6 of us 2 adults and 4 kids. Beach was easy to access however crossing road can be challenging at times. Staff was awesome and accommodating trying to fix the ac issue on a weekend. Thou I gave a 4 on rating was a little expensive for not being right on beach.

My wife and I had a great weekend stay at BBR. We live locally in Sarasota but felt like we were far from home once we settled in. Our unit was clean and very welcoming and we really enjoyed the simple, rustic décor. The staff was very welcoming and although there were plenty of activities within walking/trolley distance we really felt we were at a private beach resort. We would definitely stay here again and continually recommend to our friends looking for a quality, convenient get away.

We stayed in Bungalow 116. The room was beautiful and the view was breathtaking. The staff was very nice. The room was equipped with everything we needed with a full kitchen and an outdoor grilling area. There are toys and floats for the kids out on the beach. We look forward to staying there again next year with our daughter. Very impressed and I highly recommend the BBR!

Room Tip: The Mermaid....room 116 is the best room!! Awesome view and very quiet.

While this property has way more charm and character than anything surrounding it, we just experienced too many issues to rate it any higher than average. The bungalow look and feel is very cool, and talk about being right on the beach....No elevators, no commercial look or feel and a very "island" look make it a unique place to stay. The beach lounges were awesome and guests have access to floats, toys, etc.

The staff was very friendly and nice.

At the same time, we were in two units in two nights and neither was clean in areas that counted (behind the sink, storage areas, base boards, etc.). This really turned us off. For the price they charge, every unit should be pristine.

My second issue was the lack of a wireless internet connection. While it would be nice to get away from work completely, this is not realistic. I needed a connection to get some work done and there was none. I ended up sitting in the tiny lobby for an hour. Again, for the price charged, the entire property should be wireless.

Several areas of the resort needed maintenance. Wood rot, paint and obvious areas that need some attention. Way too many we thought. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't good either.

The TV was tiny and inadequate. If you are going to have one.....have a nice one. Same thing with the showers, a larger person would be hitting the walls they were so small.

Bring you own drinks and snacks. The units are well equipped in the kitchen areas, but you cannot get a soda, snack or anything at the resort.

Each unit was white....white paint, white linens and white furniture. While this is very nice, there were stains on the bed cover and couch. If you are going to feature white, it needs to be perfectly white.

We truly wanted to love this place, but unless the multiple issues are resolved I would not recommend it.

Room Tip: The unit on the beach (015) was right on the beach, but the unit we stayed in off the beach (106) wa...

When I saw the pictures on the website, my first thought was how charming this resort is. When we arrived, we stayed in bungalow 115 with the "shabby chic" décor. I thought it was very quaint, a little expensive, but worth the money for 4 people. No it wasn't the cleanest unit, there was dust, the floor needed cleaning and the carpet should have been replaced a long time ago, but it was quaint and had character. Daily towel delivery service worked well, and the staff never bothered us. The staff was polite and very helpful. The one gem about this unit was the private swimming pool. It was great and it was cleaned three times during our weeks stay. I look forward to returning to Anna Maria Island next year with my grandchildren. Because it isn't very crowded during this time of year, I will likely be back next summer.

BBR, good job!

Room Tip: Pick bungalow 115, it has a private pool and sits off by itself.
