We visited the Hare and Hound for 2 nights and had with us our dog. On arrival we were welcomed warmly and were shown to our beautiful top floor double ensuite bedroom including beautiful stand alone bathtub. The decor was traditional but sophisticated and had a lovely homely feel to it. We were offered maps of local walks on our arrival and set off straight away to enjoy one of them.

Dinner was so good here the first night (beef and ale pie and lamb hotpot) that we had no choice but to eat there again for the second night (trio of mutton chops and sea bass). The dinners were sensational, exactly what we needed after a long day's walking. It was lovely being able to have our dog with us in all areas of the hotel and he sat beneath our table as we dined.

Breakfast (which was included in our room rate) was equally as good. Orange juice, freshly ground coffee, fresh fruit and yogurts, cereal, pain au chocolat, croissants AND a choice of a fantastic locally-sourced cooked breakfast, or lighter cooked options. Just brilliant!

I will be recommending the Hare and Hound to friends and similarly do so to any one looking for a quiet and authentic Lake District experience. Looking forward to visiting again. Thank you

Very friendly welcome, delicious food, lovely bedroom with roll top bath and separate shower. Very rusitc and totally charming interior.
Yummy cooked breakfast too. We had an all too short one night stay here and loved it!

Room Tip: Room 1 was lovely

Took my wife away for a couple of nights in the Lakes and chose this Pub after reading the reviews on this forum. I can honestly say that it was a joy to stay there.

We arrived on Monday to be greeted by a delightful young woman who was extremely welcoming and friendly. The room we were allocated was first class with views to the front and rear (from a spacious bathroom).

The breakfast was excellent on both mornings and the variety of the evening menu and food of the highest quality. A tremendous location for exploring the southern side of the Lake District.

I would also recommend a couple of nearby places to visit Cartmel (home of the famous sticky toffee pudding) and Cartmel Priory (a beautiful church) and a trip along the side of Coniston Water (the side opposite Coniston itself - a lovely drive).

Thanks to Mandy, family and staff a pleasure meeting you all at the Hare and Hounds, a great little establishment. We'll be back.

We visited the Hare & Hounds for our evening meal in early March as we were staying nearby. I loved the rustic but elegant interior & found the log fire really cosy. We were served by a young man & young woman & both were extremely friendly & welcoming. We were really impressed by the food: starters & mains (steak & ale pie & goats cheese salad) delicious & elegantly presented. Puddings (sticky toffee pudding & creme brûlée) were also fantastic. Service was a good pace - relaxed & unrushed but never forgotten. I'd love to return!

We have visited The Hare and Hounds a number of times and always found the food and hospitality very good. Our party of seven was again well looked after and we each enjoyed the dinner. However on this occasion there was a big downside. On the next table the couple had brought in a large dog. It was sharing their meal from the table and at one stage even tried it's luck at our table until it was sent away.
The proprietors must remember that this is an eating establishment requiring high hygiene not a dogs parlour- they made no attempt to remove it from the dining area or stop it eating from the table. NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Friendly welcome at this village inn. Smallest bedroom is very comfortable done out very stylishly. Bathroom is small but shower is good. Lovely big fluffy towels. The food in the inn is very good - home cooked using local ingredients. Obviously a popular place with locals and visitors alike. Breakfast is good although the scrambled eggs could be done in a pan rather than dried out in microwave - that's the only criticism.

This place cannot be beaten. We stayed on Friday night as we were after somewhere quaint for a last minute night away. We booked this place based on the great reviews and we were certainly not disappointed. We stayed in room 4. Huge room with beautiful luxury furnishings. Lovely freestanding bath as well as a large shower cubicle. Fluffy plump towels and fresh clean bedding. It still has that new carpet smell it really is immaculate. Food is delicious, huge portions at fair prices. Staff were really nice too. We were a little apprehensive at visiting such a small hotel with so few rooms but we loved it, they were so welcoming and everything was perfect. Honestly, this place cannot be beaten!
