Mixed feelings about this relatively new (old location, new name) place. The outside seating, bar, and entertainment area is really very nice and spacious!! The inside though just does not have the IDENTITY it needs to hold on to folks!! It is clean, and large, but dull! Booth and table combination and inside bar but nothing jumps up to say "island time" or tropical themed. It wants to be a bit more formal than it needs to be and it seems that no ne has set the way the place wants to go and who it wants to hold on to!.
The menu is OK! The presentation of the food is nice and the items we partook of were well prepared and well priced.
If going out for an evening with friends or just to kick back and relax...stay outside and enjoy the ambience.

went with my husband last night. decided to have a couple of drinks at the bar before going in for dinner. oh my, we left after one drink. lots of loud, obnoxious drunks at 7pm and a few that didn't smell very good. too bad, we were excited for a new place in town, especially a dog friendly one. we won't be returning.

Four of us stopped by for lunch on a recent Saturday around 1p.m. When we walked up to the outdoor bar area the bartender didn't make eye contact, acknowledge us or even smile. Inside there were a few customers at tables but not many. We waited several minutes before anyone on staff came out. As the guy walked by we asked 'so do we seat ourselves or what?'. He replied he would show us to our booth, then disappeared. Five minutes or more went by and a differernt waiter came out, took a drink order and in about another 5 minutes our drinks arrived and we got menus.

I have to say the menu is pretty much the same old same old burgers, French Dips, salad and fare you find anywhere. Nothing remarkable. The food we ordered was about as we expected - ordinary - nothing to write home about. By now the waiter did warm up and we got great service. He was attentive, friendly and came by several times to check our drinks and if we needed anything.

This is a new restaurant - right next door to Paisano's Italian Grocery. It's been a lot of different restaurants over the years - at one time even a nice white table cloth establishment with a live jazz combo.

River Palm probably has a decent chance of surviving in Cape Coral - it's the type of food people generally go for here "Americana/provincial" . Chain restaurants seem to do well in this town so for me it's very nice to have something differnent. And that's what I hope River Palm will be.

In the meantime - train the staff on greeting customers, being friendly, making eye contact and making people feel like they are welcome guests whom you would like to have as regular customers. The snowbirds are gone now so it's manners, service and good food that will pay your bills.

The River Palm now occupies the old Mr. C's location on Lafayette Street. Another couple had stopped in for lunch last week and enjoyed it, so we decided to give it a try for dinner. I'm glad we did. We got there a bit before the other couple so we had a drink at a table by the bar. Although the entertainment was a bit loud it was, none the less, enjoyable. The waitress was there to take our drink orders immediately and she was friendly and helpful. After the other couple arrived we went inside to eat. We were immediately greeted and seated. Our waitress inside was just as friendly and helpful as the one outside. We started with a family style salad which was huge and very tasty. We each ordered different meals, salmon, steak, chicken with pasta and tilapia, and everyone raved about what they got. The portions are more than reasonable for the price and prepared exactly as ordered. As an added bonus, their house wines are as good as any we have had anywhere. Bread wasn't served with dinner, except with my chicken/pasta dish, so we asked if any was available. Our waitress immediately brought out some fresh, warm Italian bread. At the end of the meal we asked to speak with the owner so we could tell him how much we enjoyed our meal. He was there a moment later and spent a good deal of time speaking with us and thanking us for our patronage.

This restaurant is new and has not done much advertizing yet. It wants to be known as a restaurant that serves liquor, rather than a bar that serves food. I think their food rings true to this effort. I hope other people try it so it will succeed and be around for a long time. The Cape can always use another casual dining establishment that serves great food at reasonable prices.

Give it a try.
