The Old Carrabelle Hotel

The Old Carrabelle Hotel is old-time Florida at its best. Just returned from a brief stay there and can't wait to go back. It felt like we were on a movie lot where they were filming a period piece from 1880's Florida. The hotel is immaculate and the furnishings in our room were mostly period pieces and were spot on. The entire place captured the spirit of old time Florida in a way that simply can’t be experienced in a museum or gleaned from a book. Curious about Inn/hotel living in 1880's Florida, like we were? You won't be disappointed if you spend a few days here.
In short, kudos to Kathy and Skip for their attention to detail; it’s no wonder they earned the Certificate of Excellence Award two years running from TripAdvisor .

My husband and I love staying at the Old Carrabelle Hotel when we are in the area. Check-in is a breeze, as is check-out. There is an "Old Florida" ambiance about The Old Carrabelle Hotel; quiet, laid back, and just plain relaxing. We love sitting on the upper wrap-around porch in the late afternoons enjoying quiet time with a glass of wine. The rooms in which we have stayed all have different themes, and are very comfortable and private; we always look forward to our visits there. The only inconvenience is that breakfast is served at a diner located about 2 miles away; however, portions are quite generous and very good. Friendly people abound, and we love this part of Florida.

Gracious living at its best. The Old Carrable Hotel will always be my home away from home. Clean, comfortable, historic, gracious hosts, walking distance to great eateries, and a wrap-around balcony on the second floor that allows you to sit and absorb the history of this wonderful town. 10 star accomodations in my book.

Via Mobile! (--looks Latin--)

The mobile road to convenience for all of us--what a difference the "smart" phone has made.

We are enjoying a larger and larger portion of our guest reservations from travelers who are already on the way! Not suggested, because we have to say "sorry" frequently, but what a convenience. And convenient to send a review on the way home! All reviews are appreciated, and the more green balls the better we like it! Thanks.

We loved everything about The Old Carabelle Inn. It was very comfortable, casual and very centrally located. As a native Floridian it was SO nice to stay in such a true to Florida place! We were made to feel very welcome and check in/check out couldn't have been any easier. My favorite is the wrap-around porch...loved it! Thank you so much and we WILL be back:)

Room Tip: Loved the Hemingway...easy access to upstairs porch!

We stayed 2 nights to explore some of the panhandle. Very comfortable room with coffee available in the am. The breakfast set up is not the best but ok. A quiet and low key place to stay. We would stay there again if we were in the area.

Room Tip: no pool or fitness center

We enjoyed our stay at The Old Carabelle and would probably stay again. The main detractor was the lack of ground floor rooms requiring that we climb about 17-18 steps in a poorly lighted hallway. The common small refrigerator is in the hall as well.

That said, if you don't need handicapped accommodations, the innkeepers are very nice and the rooms and upper level porch with seating are all very inviting and comfortable. Skip and Kathy have quite a flair for decorating and have done a beautiful job of remodeling this old hotel. They provide coffee from a pot atop the small refrigerator in the hall upstairs and very generous breakfast credits at "2 Al's" restaurant, where the food is delicious, portions large, and service excellent!

We couldn't help but notice the complimentary words in this review: nice, very inviting and comfortable, quite a flair, beautiful, very generous, delicious, large, excellent! 3 balls out of 5 is 60%, or what we used to call in school an F. We really don't think that this reviewer meant to fail us, instead may actually just have clicked the wrong ball.

Our ground floor has 10 foot ceilings, a nice old feature that makes the Hotel seem roomier and helps with ventilation. Yes, that necessitates 17 stairs (vs 14) to reach the rooms and veranda on the second floor. They are carpeted, padded, and the ample handrail is stout. Short of installing an elevator, impractical due to space availability, we are out of ideas to change that fact.

We are always very careful not to advertise accessibility, because this 113-yr old building just was not built up to our modern standards. And,that has caused us personal disappointment over the years, because a friend of ours is in a scooter and has never been able to tour the Hotel upstairs. But on the positive side, we try harder in other areas, and just last week received the TripAdvisor Greenleaders Gold award for our environment-friendly business efforts!

We picked Carrabelle out on the map as a stopping point on our road trip to Texas. Knowing nothing about the town or surroundings, we were thrilled to find a side of Florida we had never seen before - and our stay at the Old Carrabelle Hotel made the stop worthwhile. A comfortable room, great breakfast and good company made this little gem a place we will remember.

The mutual admiration continues between our Forgotten Coast (the Hotel in particular) and our European visitors. Since Europe has limited coastline availability and unlimited people who want to go there, we are a breath of fresh air--literally.

Thank you for your kind words, and send your friends! We have plenty of room.
